Task Overview

Professor

In the next few weeks, we will be discussing various initiatives to help protect the environment. According to one initiative, plastic, which is extremely harmful for the environment, should be banned entirely. However, many products we use every day are made of plastic: food and drink containers, shopping bags, furniture, and even cars. Do you agree that the use of plastic should be banned? Why or why not?

Student A

In my opinion, it would be impossible to convince people to stop buying and using plastic products. Plastic is a cheap, durable material, and as Dr. Achebe noted, we use plastic in an abundance of items. I understand the negative impact of plastic on the environment, but we need to find a different solution than a complete ban.

Student B

I believe it's possible to convince people to use at least less plastic. There are environmentally friendly alternatives to many plastic products. For example, instead of plastic shopping bags, I use reusable bags made of fabric. People just need to be educated, and many of them will be happy to use less plastic.

Section Title: 6 Article Revision

In response to the professor's question, I concur with Kelly that an outright ban on plastic is impractical. Rather than prohibiting all plastic usage, governments should explore alternative materials and implement policies to reduce plastic consumption. For instance, imposing fines on companies that heavily rely on plastic production could incentivize them to develop eco-friendly substitutes. Additionally, authorities could mandate that retailers charge customers for plastic bags, thereby encouraging consumers to bring their own reusable bags or opt for alternatives when shopping at malls or supermarkets. This approach not only promotes environmental awareness but also fosters innovation in the pursuit of sustainable solutions. (107 words)

I agree with Claire that it is more important to use land for human needs. In addition to her argument, I would like to emphasize that people are able to use land for the development of agriculture. This is to say, using land to grow crops provides nutrients to support humans' lives. For example, in my hometown, most people eat something cultivated by themselves, rather than buying food from grocery stores. We grow wheat to give our bodies the carbohydrates they need, and vegetables and fruits to give our bodies the vitamins they need. Moreover, Not only is it healthy for us to eat our own crops, but it also saves money. Thus, land is vital for agriculture production, which can satisfiy people's daily needs. In conclusion, I firmly believe that more land should be available used by people.

In response to the professor's question, I concur with Claire that prioritizing land use for human needs is essential. Apart from her points, I would like to emphasize the significance of land in agricultural development. Utilizing land for crop cultivation ensures a steady supply of essential nutrients for human sustenance. For instance, in my hometown, the majority of residents consume self-grown produce instead of purchasing from grocery stores. We cultivate wheat for carbohydrates and various fruits and vegetables for vital vitamins. This practice not only promotes a healthier lifestyle but also results in financial savings. While I can see Claire’s point that the land should be used by people first, I agree with Paul’s perspective that it is crucial that animals’ habitat should be preserved for the environmental reasons. As mentioned by Paul, people should save land for endangered animals for the reason of maintaining the environment’s long-term health. The creatures in the wildlife play an essential role to earth’s ecosystem. For instance, the plants release oxygen into the air, which improves the quality of air. However, without the land, animals and plants will lose their habitats and unable to purify the earth. Moreover, if people use more land to build hospitals and shopping centers, there will be more emissions and pollutants during the process of constructing, which has a negative effect on the environment.

Section Title: Balancing Human Needs and Wildlife Conservation

While I understand Claire's argument that land should primarily be used to meet human needs, I concur with Paul's stance on the importance of preserving habitats for endangered animals due to environmental considerations. As Paul highlighted, conserving land for endangered species is vital for maintaining the long-term health of our planet's ecosystems. Wildlife plays an indispensable role in sustaining ecological balance and preserving biodiversity. For example, plants release oxygen into the atmosphere, thereby improving air quality. However, without sufficient land, both animals and plants will lose their habitats and become unable to contribute to Earth's purification. Furthermore, if humans continue to prioritize land use for infrastructure development such as hospitals and shopping centers, the construction process will inevitably generate increased emissions and pollutants, negatively impacting the environment. In response to the professor's question, I believe that while preserving land for endangered species is essential for maintaining ecological balance, it is crucial to prioritize land use for human needs. This approach offers significant advantages for governments in terms of economic growth and societal development. Expanding urban boundaries and constructing new facilities have been instrumental in driving economic success across nations. The establishment of entertainment venues such as cinemas, zoos, and theaters creates employment opportunities for local residents, contributing to their financial well-being.

Furthermore, well-developed infrastructure attracts individuals from rural areas, stimulating consumption and bolstering economic development. Although urban expansion may have detrimental effects on the environment, the benefits it brings cannot be overlooked. Governments can implement policies to mitigate negative impacts by regulating human activities such as deforestation. In conclusion, a balanced approach that addresses both human needs and endangered species conservation is necessary for sustainable progress. (158 words)

Balancing Land Use: Prioritizing Human Needs vs. Endangered Animals

In the ongoing debate over land use, the question arises: should we prioritize human needs or the preservation of endangered animals? I concur with Student A that addressing human requirements is of greater importance.

Human beings possess remarkable intelligence and problem-solving abilities, which have allowed us to adapt and thrive in various environments. By leveraging our intellectual capabilities, we can develop innovative solutions to optimize land use, creating a more harmonious coexistence between humans and animals.

Furthermore, a robust population is essential for societal development, as it provides the necessary workforce to build and maintain infrastructure. A declining population can lead to the deterioration of nations. Rather than passively accepting this fate, we should invest in advanced technologies and strategies to tackle this dilemma.

In conclusion, prioritizing human needs does not necessarily mean neglecting endangered animals. By focusing on our own requirements, we can develop solutions that ultimately benefit both humans and wildlife. (165 words)

From my perspective, I mostly agree with Paul and I suppose that it is important to take priority of saving land for endangered animals. Foremost, I think people have already occupied most of the land in the earth, with the extremely rapid increasement of population and industries, we've already dominated much more land than we actually need. Some things people did is harmful and absolutely detrimental to the environment and ecosystem balance of this world. So I strongly hold that we should now slow down our steps and save land for those animals who are confronting the extinction problem right now. Additionally, we can try to imagine the outcome if many species get extincted, the ecosystem will be destroyed and this will finally have bad influence on us human. In a nutshell, I firmly believe that we should now save land for those endangered animals.

While I can see Paul's idea that it is crucial to use land for endangered animals who play an essential role in the ecological system, I certainly concur with Claire's viewpoint that human needs come first due to our intelligence and increasing population. Apart from what Claire has raised, I add that the land must be used to accommodate refugees and victims. Nowadays, due to the breaking wars and terrorist attacks across the world, many residents suffer pain from being homeless and destitute. It is the governors' accountability to make use of land and establish shelters, excluding the victims from enduring pain of being restless. For example, consider refuges from Iraq, who have suffered a lot from wars between Iraq and Afghanistan, are sheltered by European countries who take advantage of vacant lands, ensuring their safety. However, with the land exploited for animals, numerous people will persistently get stuck in the fire. Thus, although animals may benefit the planet in the long term, people's provisional interests are the priority.

The ongoing debate regarding whether land should be utilized for human needs or for endangered animals presents a complex dilemma. While I acknowledge Paul's argument that preserving land for endangered animals is vital for maintaining ecological balance, I align more closely with Claire's perspective that prioritizing human needs is essential due to our intelligence and growing population. In addition to Claire's points, I would like to emphasize the importance of using land to accommodate refugees and other displaced individuals. In today's world, conflicts and terrorist attacks have left countless people homeless and destitute. It is the responsibility of governments to allocate land for shelters, alleviating the suffering of those who have been displaced. For instance, consider refugees from Iraq who have endured immense hardship due to wars between Iraq and Afghanistan; European countries have provided them with shelter by utilizing available land resources, ensuring their safety. If we prioritize land conservation for animals over human needs, countless individuals will continue to suffer in dire circumstances. Therefore, although protecting endangered species may contribute to long-term planetary health, addressing immediate human needs must take precedence. (186 words)

Although Paul raises a valid concern regarding the necessity of preserving land for endangered animals to protect ecosystems, I concur with Claire's stance that prioritizing human needs in land utilization is essential. As Claire asserts, the rapid population growth demands increased land allocation for human habitation and sustenance. Failure to address this issue could result in conflicts and wars over limited resources, an outcome we must strive to avoid.

While it is true that human encroachment may endanger various species, natural selection will prompt ecosystems to adapt accordingly. Nevertheless, we should endeavor to minimize our impact on endangered species by focusing on sustainable development and prioritizing the use of previously developed land. From my persective, using land for human needs and saving land for endangered animals don't necessarily conflicts each other. In other words, we should make better use of our land for human needs as well as save land for endangered animals. Here are several reasons. Firstly, making better use of land does not necessarily result in widening human sites. Instead, making better use means we should find a way to get along well with the environment, maintaining a sustainable development. For example, I don't think the continuing growth in population is a reasonable thing, with the population growing, the limited resources on the Earth will inevitably being used up, no matter how much land we finally capture. Secondly, protecting the habitats of the endangered animals is actually benifiting our human beings. With more and more animals getting extinction, the diversity of the ecosystems will come to a finally collapse. For instance, without certain preys, many wild animals will prey on humanbeings.

Section Title: Balancing Human Needs and Endangered Species Conservation

In my opinion, addressing human needs and preserving land for endangered animals are not mutually exclusive objectives. Rather, we should strive to optimize land use for both human necessities and wildlife conservation. To achieve this balance, we must prioritize sustainable development and maintain a harmonious relationship with the environment. For instance, unchecked population growth is unsustainable as it will inevitably deplete Earth's finite resources, regardless of how much land we acquire. Thus, we should focus on managing population growth responsibly.

Furthermore, safeguarding endangered species' habitats ultimately benefits humanity as well. The loss of biodiversity due to species extinction can lead to the collapse of ecosystems, which in turn can have dire consequences for human populations. For example, the absence of certain prey animals may force predators to target humans instead. By preserving land for endangered animals and maintaining ecological balance, we not only protect these species but also ensure our own survival and well-being in the long run. (167 words)

In response to professor's query, I align myself more with Paul's view point that we should save land for endangered animals. The reasons are showing below. Firstly, saving lands might be beneficial to both human beings and the world as species form a strong food chain with each other that might establish a strong ecosystem, and if one strain extincts, it will affect both its prey and predators. What's more, save lands for endangered aninals can maintain biodiversity which is mentioned by Paul, and this can have help children gain more knowlegde about the species and broaden their horizons. Claire's point is not without merit, however, she fails in the point that our world is not only occupied by us, it belongs to the whole species. Therefore, in my opinion, I definitely agree that save land for endangdered animals is a more proper decision.

In response to the professor's question, I concur with the perspective that prioritizing land conservation for endangered animals is essential. Firstly, preserving habitats benefits both humans and the environment, as species are interconnected through intricate food chains that establish robust ecosystems. The extinction of one species can significantly impact its prey and predators, potentially destabilizing entire ecosystems. Furthermore, safeguarding land for endangered animals helps maintain biodiversity, which not only contributes to ecological stability but also enriches our understanding of various species and broadens our knowledge base. While Claire's argument regarding human needs holds some validity, it overlooks the fact that our world is a shared space inhabited by countless species. Consequently, I firmly believe that allocating land for endangered animals is a more judicious decision. (130 words)

Due to the unsustainability of land resources, there is a legitimate argument about how to use it wisely, namely using it for human activities or for endangered animals. According to Clair, the land is supposed to be used for human beings since the human race is superior in terms of making sensible decisions and the population is becoming increasingly large. However, Paul argues that in the long run, protecting the habitat for endangered animals is more beneficial to the Earth thanks to their importance in keeping a harmonious ecosystem. In my opinion, a balanced view should be adopted. First, it is undeniable that the human population is expanding at a fast speed and it is unjustified to have some people live without appropriate accommodation. From this perspective, exploiting land resources to build apartments or houses is necessary. On the other hand, every species has its own niche, meaning that if any kind of animal dies out due to the lack of habitat, the subtle balance will be destroyed, leading to serious natural disasters. Thus, it is crucial to keep a certain area for those animals, at least making sure none of them have risk of being homeless.

Section Title: Balancing Land Use for Humans and Endangered Animals

While Claire raises a valid point regarding the necessity of land for human needs, given our ability to make rational decisions and the rapidly growing population, I firmly believe that preserving land for endangered animals is of paramount importance. Humans are not the only inhabitants of this planet; animals also have a right to coexist and thrive. We must not prioritize our well-being at the expense of other creatures. Instead, we should explore more efficient solutions to address this issue, such as collaborative efforts among nations to develop advanced technologies and optimize land use.

For instance, governments could consider reconstructing low-rise buildings into taller structures, thereby increasing housing capacity without expanding their footprint. This approach would enhance land utilization while minimizing encroachment on natural habitats. Furthermore, the extinction of certain species can have irreversible consequences on ecosystems, endangering other organisms within the same food chain and ultimately affecting humans as well. As such, implementing more organized urban planning strategies is crucial in striking a balance between meeting human needs and preserving land for endangered animals. (185 words)

While it is true that animals play a pivotal role in maintaining the food chain and sustaining ecosystems, as Paul mentioned, it is essential to prioritize land use for human needs in certain situations. This is particularly relevant when considering the rapid increase in global population and the subsequent demand for resources to support human existence. By ensuring that basic human needs are met, we can foster the development of world civilization and promote a harmonious relationship between humans and other living creatures.

For instance, during the 1960s, China faced severe poverty and resource depletion due to a skyrocketing population growth. The government prioritized human existence by implementing policies that focused on meeting basic needs. As a result, China successfully overcame these challenges in the 1970s and even took measures to revive its ecosystem. This example demonstrates that prioritizing human needs can serve as a foundation for sustainable development and environmental preservation. In conclusion, addressing human necessities should be at the forefront of land use decisions to ensure both the survival of our species and the potential for future ecological restoration.

The ongoing debate surrounding land use and conservation highlights the challenge of striking a balance between meeting human needs and preserving habitats for endangered animals. Claire contends that land should primarily serve human purposes, as our intelligence enables us to make informed decisions, and the growing population necessitates increased living space. Conversely, Paul emphasizes the importance of safeguarding land for endangered species, as they play a critical role in maintaining ecological balance and preserving biodiversity.

In my view, a balanced approach is essential. Undeniably, the rapidly expanding human population requires adequate housing and infrastructure; thus, utilizing land resources for these purposes is necessary. However, each species occupies a unique ecological niche; if any animal becomes extinct due to habitat loss, it could disrupt the delicate balance of ecosystems and potentially trigger catastrophic consequences. Consequently, it is imperative to allocate sufficient land for endangered species to ensure their survival and maintain overall ecological stability. (156 words)

3. Task completeness:

The essay does a good job of addressing the task requirements by expressing a personal opinion and contributing to the discussion. However, there is room for improvement in elaborating on the viewpoint and providing more specific examples or details to support the argument. Additionally, some grammatical errors and unclear language use can be improved.

Example 1: Instead of "As we know, animals are human's friends and closely to our life," consider writing "As we know, animals are an integral part of our lives, providing us with companionship, food, and other resources."

Example 2: To provide more specific support for your argument, you could include a sentence like "Protecting land for endangered animals also helps preserve essential ecosystem services such as pollination, which directly benefits human agriculture."

4. Essay structure and organization:

The essay has a clear structure with an introduction, body paragraphs focusing on specific points, and a conclusion. However, transitions between ideas could be improved to enhance the flow of the essay.

Suggestion 1: Use transitional phrases or words to connect ideas within paragraphs and between paragraphs. This will help guide the reader through your argument more smoothly.

Example 1: Instead of starting a sentence with "Furthermore," consider using "In addition" or "Moreover" to vary your transitions.

Example 2: To connect two related ideas in different paragraphs, you could use a phrase like "Not only does saving land for endangered animals benefit ecosystems but also contributes to maintaining biodiversity."

By implementing these suggestions and examples into your essay writing process, you can improve both task completeness and essay structure for future TOEFL writing tasks.

In the ongoing debate over land usefulness, which aspect is more essential, animals or humans? My opinion aligns with Clarie's, and I firmly believe that prioritizing human requirements is more critical. Humans possess prominent intelligence and excellent problem-solving ability; during natural change, we develop enormous amounts of technologies and adaption so we can survive and climb to the top of the creature trees. We can utilize our intelligence to optimize such urgent situations and explore more possibilities for sufficient space to coexist between animals and humans. Secondly, population is crucial for society's development since all the basic infrastructures require a large number of normal people to construct. Also, the perishment of countries can be the result of reducing population. Instead of waiting to die, it's better to enhance technology and try to address this dilemma. Overall, placing human needs in the front can bring benefits to both humans and animals.

The debate over land use raises a critical question: should we prioritize human needs or the conservation of endangered animals? I concur with the perspective that emphasizes the importance of addressing human requirements.

As the most intelligent species on Earth, humans possess exceptional problem-solving abilities and have developed numerous technologies to adapt to natural changes. By harnessing our intelligence, we can devise innovative solutions to optimize land use, ensuring adequate space for both humans and animals to coexist harmoniously.

Furthermore, a robust population is essential for societal development, as it supports the construction of vital infrastructure. A declining population can lead to a nation's demise. Instead of passively accepting this fate, we should invest in technological advancements to tackle this pressing issue.

By prioritizing human needs, we can create a sustainable future that benefits both our species and the diverse array of animals with whom we share this planet. (152 words)
