Professor

As environmental protection develops, more people have come to realize that everybody should play a part in preserving the planet we live on. These years, many people want to protect and improve the natural environment. In terms of what individuals in their daily lives could do if they want to protect the environment, some put forward walking or bicycling instead of driving a car to work or school, while others recommend buying locally grown organic foods grown without pesticides, and which one do you think would work better?

lila

I think walking or cycling instead of driving works better in reducing carbon emissions. Everybody needs to commute, and a lot of people drive every day. If they can switch to walking or riding bicycles, the outcome of such a collective effort would be considerable.

Paul

Buying locally grown organic foods is more effective, I think. Growing crops organically means giving up pesticides to get rid of pests, which significantly reduces pollutants that pose great threats to soil and water. Therefore, the food chain could be less contaminated.

I agree with Lila's assertion that promote walking or bicycling to replace driving is more effective. In today's world, carbon emissions is a pivotal problem to the preservation of the environment, and I firmly believe that releasing fewer carbon dioxide will significantly reduce the probability of extreme weather events. Even if only half of the population are doing so, it still can make considerable changes in atmosphere. Although I can see Paul's point in his opinion, I would like to further argue that the proper usage of pesticides is able to produce vegetables with high quality. In addition, normally the price of organic food is higher, while walking and bicycling do not cost a penny.

Example 1: Instead of just mentioning that walking and bicycling do not cost a penny, you could elaborate on how this makes it more accessible for a larger population, leading to a greater overall impact on the environment.

Example 2: You could provide specific examples or statistics on the reduction of carbon emissions when people choose to walk or bike instead of driving.

Example 1: In the introduction, you could write, "In my opinion, walking or bicycling to work or school is a more effective way to protect the environment than buying locally grown organic foods because it directly reduces carbon emissions and is accessible to a larger population."

Example 2: When discussing the advantages of walking or bicycling, you could organize your ideas into separate paragraphs, focusing on one advantage per paragraph and providing supporting evidence for each point.

In response to the professor's question, I concur with Lila that encouraging walking or bicycling as alternatives to driving is a more effective approach in mitigating environmental degradation. Carbon emissions pose a significant threat to our planet, and reducing them by adopting eco-friendly transportation methods can substantially decrease the likelihood of extreme weather events. Even if only a portion of the population embraces this change, the collective impact on atmospheric conditions would be noteworthy. While I understand Paul's perspective on organic food production, it is worth mentioning that responsible pesticide use can yield high-quality produce. Furthermore, organic food typically comes at a higher price point, whereas walking and bicycling are cost-free solutions for individuals seeking to contribute to environmental preservation. In response to the professor's question, I support Claire's argument that prioritizing economic development before environmental protection is essential. While Paul rightly pointed out the importance of natural resources, it is crucial to recognize that economic stability plays a significant role in people's lives. If individuals lack financial security and basic living standards, they are less likely to focus on environmental concerns. Furthermore, only through robust economic growth can we generate sufficient funds to invest in environmental protection initiatives. This includes conducting research on sustainable practices and raising public awareness about the importance of preserving our environment. Therefore, it is not advisable to hinder economic progress for the sake of environmental protection. (116 words)

Environmental protection has become a significant concern for many individuals who recognize the importance of preserving our planet. Various approaches have been proposed, such as opting for walking or cycling instead of driving and purchasing locally grown organic foods without pesticides. In my opinion, the latter is a more effective strategy.

Paul believes that buying local organic foods is more effective, and I concur with this perspective. Choosing organic products not only benefits soil and water quality by reducing pollutants but also positively impacts our health. By making this choice, we can simultaneously protect both our bodies and the environment.

While Lila's suggestion of walking or cycling is commendable, it may not always be feasible due to factors such as distance or urgency. In certain situations, using a car may be unavoidable, thus diminishing the effectiveness of this approach in comparison to purchasing organic foods. (149 words)

My viewpoint aligns more closely with Paul’s stand that protecting the environment should be the priority for human beings. People can get numerous resources from nature, including food, water, and metal, both of which are the foundation for economic development. For the long term, environment protection is more essential than economic development because, without these resources, it’s impossible to conduct any economic constructions, and finally leads to disaster for human beings. Additionally, I would like to emphasize a new point that preserving the environment also brings economic value. As we know, we can take advantage of solar energy or other green energy without putting a threat to nature; moreover, we can develop ecologic agriculture which also enables farmers to get lots of money. In conclusion, human beings shouldn’t develop the economy at the cost of the environment.

My perspective aligns more closely with the notion that prioritizing environmental protection is essential for humanity. The abundance of resources provided by nature, such as food, water, and metals, serves as the foundation for economic development. In the long run, safeguarding the environment is more crucial than economic growth because without these resources, economic endeavors become unattainable and ultimately result in disastrous consequences for humans.

Furthermore, I would like to highlight that preserving the environment can also generate economic value. For instance, harnessing solar energy or other renewable sources poses no threat to nature while promoting sustainable development. Additionally, ecological agriculture practices can be adopted to ensure environmental conservation while simultaneously providing financial benefits for farmers.

In light of these considerations, it is evident that humans should not pursue economic development at the expense of the environment. (140 words)

Title: 6 文章修订

Balancing economic development and environmental protection is undeniably a complex issue. While prioritizing the environment offers long-term benefits for human society, I contend that focusing on economic growth should take precedence. The primary reason for this stance is that a thriving economy can significantly enhance technological advancements, which in turn, contribute to more efficient environmental protection measures. For instance, the widespread use of gasoline-powered vehicles has led to increased air pollution over the years. Moreover, environmentally detrimental practices such as burning coal and oil for energy persist. These issues will remain unresolved unless governments invest in economic development and allocate resources towards innovative technologies. Therefore, I firmly believe that prioritizing economic growth is essential for addressing environmental concerns effectively. (122 words)

As I can see Paul's perspective that purchasing organic foods grown without pesticides enables the less use of pesticides, which leads to the pollutants reduction and food chain protection, I agree with Lila's idea that reducing the driving of cars can better protect the environment. By switching to walk or riding bicycles, the contaminating gas and poisonous chemicals emitted by cars can be reduced effectively, which significantly impact the air conditions. Apart from what Lila has mentioned, I add that with many people choosing to give up driving cars, the improved air condition can encourage more people to walk or ride bikes to get to their destinations since they are willing to enjoy the comfortable environment.

I personally agree that walking or cycling is better for protecting the environment. As Lila says, to the considerable outcome of the collective effort, it is feasible to walk or cycle. Because, although some people may live far from their working or studying locations, many people live within a distance that supports them to walk or cycle to go to workplaces or schools. Besides, considering the health factor, due to the quick pace of work and life, many people lack time and energy to exercise, walking or cycling will provide opportunities to do some physical exercise which is good for people's health.

Section Title: Addressing Housing Shortages

In my opinion, the most effective approach for the government to tackle the housing shortage issue is by constructing multi-purpose residential buildings that can accommodate a larger number of people. This strategy allows for optimal utilization of available space, enabling the construction of more apartments and houses within these structures. For example, building hotels can provide temporary accommodation for some individuals. Moreover, the government could develop residential communities comprising multiple buildings with various amenities and recreational facilities for residents' convenience and enjoyment. Implementing such policies can significantly alleviate housing shortages. Drawing from personal experience, my city adopted similar measures during my senior high school years to address this issue. The construction of hotels and residential areas provided ample living spaces for the growing population, effectively resolving the problem. (133 words)

However, I am inclined to believe that a multifaceted approaches is more effective in protecting environment. Firstly, governments can invest much money to the green energy technology, because this new technology can take place the cars which burn the gasoline and emit carbon dioxide. Furthermore, it is better for governments to build more parks in the cities. This measure can make people want to go outside walking or running, during this process, people can aware the importance of protecting environmrnt because they can breath the fresh air, see some beautiful flowers and so on. Finally, the whole world shoud unite and implement some polocices to control the environment, because this is not only a few countries' duty.

In response to the professor's question, I concur with Lila that adopting alternative modes of transportation, such as walking or cycling, can significantly contribute to environmental protection. While Paul's argument on supporting locally grown organic foods is valid, a comprehensive approach would yield more effective results in preserving our environment. One crucial aspect is the government's investment in green energy technology, which could potentially replace gasoline-powered vehicles and reduce carbon dioxide emissions. Additionally, constructing more parks within urban areas encourages individuals to engage in outdoor activities, fostering an appreciation for nature and raising awareness about environmental conservation. Lastly, it is imperative for nations worldwide to collaborate and implement policies aimed at safeguarding our environment since this responsibility extends beyond individual countries' borders. Also, they can help the heavy polluted factories move to the contryside, which can help solve the environment problem in the population density area. Furthermore, building more parks in the downtown can improve the environmental conditions, and this measure can also stimulate consumption grows. Consequently, I contend that the economic development would not affect the environment, and we do not need to slow down the economic development.

Section Title: Balancing Economic Development and Environmental Protection

While Paul's assertion that prioritizing environmental protection is crucial may initially appear compelling, especially considering the potential for human actions to ultimately lead to our own demise, I believe that it is possible to protect the environment without hindering economic development. Governments can implement stringent regulations to control greenhouse gas emissions, water pollution, and other harmful industrial byproducts. Additionally, relocating heavily polluted factories to less populated areas can alleviate environmental issues in densely populated regions. Moreover, constructing more parks in urban centers can enhance local environmental conditions while simultaneously stimulating economic growth through increased consumer spending. Thus, I maintain that economic development need not be detrimental to the environment, and there is no necessity to decelerate our progress for its sake. (129 words)

In my perspective, developing the economy comes before protecting the environment. I agree with Claire’s opinion as she mentioned, without a developing economy people cannot live in a survivable environment and because of this, people will sacrifice the environment in exchange for their basic survival which damage the environment even worse. Therefore, for a better environment and better quality of humans living, economic growth comes before environment. Though Paul said, the environment has given humans everything, not to mention the economy, so we should slow down economic growth to protect animals, plants, and the earth. However, when we slow down the speed of economic development, along with the decline of scientific and technological development, but to protect the environment needs a lot of money and technology help, therefore slow down the economic growth cause the environment protection even harder. Overall, developing economies make the environment to be better, so economic development comes before environment protection.

In my perspective, prioritizing economic development over environmental protection is essential. I concur with Claire's viewpoint that without a thriving economy, people cannot sustain a livable environment. Consequently, individuals may resort to sacrificing the environment to fulfill their basic survival needs, exacerbating environmental degradation. Therefore, fostering economic growth is crucial for improving both the environment and human living conditions. While Paul argues that we should slow down economic growth to protect the environment as it provides us with everything, including the foundation for our economy, this approach has its drawbacks. Slowing down economic development could lead to a decline in scientific and technological advancements which are vital for environmental protection efforts. Implementing effective environmental conservation measures often requires substantial financial and technological resources; thus, hindering economic growth may inadvertently make protecting the environment more challenging. In essence, fostering economic development can contribute to better environmental outcomes and should take precedence over environmental protection initiatives. (157 words)

As the development of our modern society, the issue of pollution seems to be more serious. Acid rain, global warming and PM 2.5 have become the hot words in our daily life. When it comes to the environmental protection, admittedly, buying local organic food can reduce the pollution on soil and water, as Steve said. However, we should not ignore that these organic products must be very expensive and will be a burden for some families. Thus, I tend to agree with Lila that choosing green transportation instead of driving is an effective way. First, walking or cycling to some places need not cost any money, so more people prefer to choose this transportation way. If more people can change to wail or ride bikes, its result of reduce carbon emissions would be extremely effective. Moreover, going to other places rather than driving can solve the problem of traffic jam and thus, reducing the car’s dwell time on the road. As a result, the car’s driving time will go down which indicates the less carbon emission to the air.

Section Title: 6 Article Revision

In today's rapidly evolving society, pollution has become an increasingly pressing concern. Acid rain, global warming, and PM 2.5 are now common topics in everyday conversations. While Steve's suggestion of purchasing locally grown organic food can indeed mitigate soil and water pollution, it is important to consider the financial burden this may impose on some families. Consequently, I concur with Lila that opting for green transportation methods, such as walking or cycling instead of driving, serves as a more effective approach.

Firstly, walking or cycling incurs no monetary costs, making it a preferred choice for many individuals. If a significant number of people adopt these eco-friendly modes of transportation, the collective impact on reducing carbon emissions would be substantial. Furthermore, by choosing alternative means of travel over driving, traffic congestion can be alleviated, subsequently decreasing vehicle idle time on roads. This reduction in driving time directly correlates to lower carbon emissions being released into the atmosphere. (161 words)

Funding for education has become a trending topic in recent discussions. In my opinion, universities should prioritize allocating resources to academic facilities, such as libraries, over sports programs. This perspective aligns with Rachel's argument that investing in libraries can help attract renowned professors and exceptional students. Considering facts, I agree with Claire on this topic. I consider economic development more prior to the environment. Economic development is not only essential to those areas where people get low income but also important to those manufacturing companies. And these companies contribute a lot to our social income, accounting for individual's living standards. Indeed, preserving the environment is becoming increasingly urgent, however, companies need more capital to improve their production process and pollution treatment technology. So they can only do their environment-preserving job better when they are in good financial status. If we put protecting the environment ahead of economic development, a lot of companies should be closed or be fined. As a result, many people will lose their jobs as companies need to reduce cost, which is obviously not what we wanted.

Section Title: Balancing Economic Development and Environmental Protection

While acknowledging the importance of environmental preservation, I concur with Claire that economic development should take precedence. This is particularly crucial in underdeveloped regions where people struggle to meet their basic needs. Moreover, thriving economies are essential for manufacturing companies, which significantly contribute to societal income and individual living standards. Although protecting the environment is undeniably vital, businesses require sufficient capital to enhance their production processes and adopt pollution control technologies. Consequently, prioritizing environmental conservation over economic growth could lead to company closures or financial penalties, resulting in job losses as businesses attempt to cut costs. This outcome would be counterproductive to our collective well-being and must be carefully considered when addressing the delicate balance between economic development and environmental protection. While I appreciate the points mentioned by both Kelly and Claire, my perspective is that it's better to use the space to build green spaces. What must be prioritized is that greenlands other than shopping centers are more conducive for people in the urban area by improving the air quality and offering some places for people to get closer to the nature. To begin with, more parks lead to the better air quality. In detail, trees and plants can absorb polluted gas and produce oxygen by the process of photosynthesis; on the other hand, shopping malls or factories will not reduce the pollution but make things deteriorate. Moreover, green spaces give people the access the nature. To be specific, people could get relaxed by walking in parks, playing with their dogs; in contrast, manufacturing plants do not have such effects.

To be specific, people could get relaxed by walking in parks, playing with their dogs; in contrast, manufacturing plants do not have such effects.

  1. Article Revision

In light of the arguments presented by Kelly and Claire, I maintain that utilizing available urban space for green spaces is the superior choice. Prioritizing greenlands over shopping centers or manufacturing plants fosters a healthier environment for city dwellers by enhancing air quality and providing opportunities to connect with nature. Firstly, an increased number of parks directly contributes to improved air quality. Trees and plants absorb pollutants and generate oxygen through photosynthesis, whereas shopping malls and factories exacerbate pollution levels. Secondly, green spaces offer urban residents valuable access to nature. Engaging in leisurely activities such as strolling through parks or playing with pets allows individuals to unwind and recharge, a benefit not afforded by industrial facilities. (119 words)
