Businesses often have higher- or ower-priced versions of a product, and of course it is to their benefit if consumersourchase the more expensive one. However, consumers may not alwavs feel the more expensive option meets theineeds. Thus, to encourage consumers to opt for the expensive version, businesses may take advantage of aphenomenon known as the decoy effect . This involves introducing a third option that acts as a decoy, or distraction. The decoy is similar in price to the expensive option and makes the expensive option appear more desirable bycomparison. This may lead consumers to purchase the expensive option, even though it may not be what theyactually need.

Revised Answer (140 words):
The decoy effect occurs when a third option, acting as a decoy, is introduced, making customers believe it is the optimal choice for them. The professor provides an example in the lecture to illustrate this concept. The professor mentions a product with two sizes: small and large. The small size is affordable for most customers, and they prefer it because it meets their needs. However, when the sellers introduce a medium size priced at $5.50, which is only slightly larger than the small size but almost as expensive as the large size, customers perceive the large size as a better deal and are more likely to purchase it. This demonstrates how businesses can use the decoy effect to influence consumer behavior and encourage them to choose more expensive options even if they may not necessarily need them.

5.语言使用Original Answer: The reading is about the concept of decoy effect, which means that some business will set the third option, which is similar in price as the expensive option to help the expensive one appear more desirable in lessening the professor's prices by giving one example. The reading discusses the decoy effect, a concept where businesses introduce a third option with a similar price to the expensive option, making it appear more desirable. The professor illustrates this concept with an example. (原句子结构较复杂,建议简化并分成两个句子。)
In the movie theater, there are two sides of popcorn, one is small one charged for three dollars and the other one is large one charged for six dollars. In the movie theater example, there are two sizes of popcorn: a small one priced at three dollars and a large one priced at six dollars. (建议使用更清晰的表达方式。)
Most people will buy the small one because they felt the small one is all they need. Most people chose the small size because they felt it was sufficient for their needs. (改进语法和词汇。)
So the movie theater just said media size, which is charged for five dollars and five cents, almost the same price as the large one. The movie theater then introduced a medium size priced at five dollars and fifty cents, almost the same price as the large size. (改进语法和词汇。)
So a lot of people will buy the large one because they said they just consume less money for more popcorn. As a result, many people opted for the large size, believing it offered more popcorn for only slightly more money. (改进语法和词汇。)
