Task Overview
Reading Passage
Vacancy Chains in many ecosystems, resources are limited. However, certain limited resources are alsoreusable, and some species have developed systems for sharing these reusable resourceswithin their community. One such system is known as a vacancy chain , When this occurs,an animal will leave a resource behind when it has finished using it, which creates a vacancy.or availability, for another animal to use that resource. When another animal then beginsusing the resource, this initiates a chain reaction in which resources are passed along fromanimal to animal. Using vacancy chains, animals within a species are able to accessresources that might otherwise be difficult to find.

As mentioned in the reading passage, it is the situation that certain limited resources are also reusable and some species have developed systems for sharing these reusable resources within their communities. For example, some crabs use their shells for protection. When their bodies are bigger, they need to find a new shell. However, when they find a new shell quite big for them, they can wait around this shell until another animal comes to use this shell and put out their old shell. And then these crabs can use this old shell as their new shell and then put out their old shell for another one.
修改后:As mentioned in the reading passage, certain limited resources are reusable, and some species have developed systems for sharing these reusable resources within their communities. For instance, hermit crabs utilize their shells for protection. As they grow larger, they need to find a new, bigger shell. However, when they encounter a shell that is too large for them, they will wait near it until another hermit crab arrives to claim the shell and discard its previous one. Subsequently, the waiting crabs can use the discarded shell as their new home and leave their old shells for others.(原文中的"it is the situation that"表达较为生硬,可以直接用"are"替换。同时,将"some crabs"改为"hermit crabs"以与听力内容保持一致。此外,将"put out"改为"discard"使表达更准确。)
修改后的回答(140词):
As mentioned in the reading passage, certain limited resources are reusable, and some species have developed systems for sharing these reusable resources within their communities. One such system is known as a vacancy chain. The lecture provides an example of hermit crabs using vacancy chains to find suitable shells. Hermit crabs utilize their shells for protection, and as they grow larger, they need to find a new, bigger shell. However, when they encounter a shell that is too large for them, they will wait near it until another hermit crab arrives to claim the shell and discard its previous one. Subsequently, the waiting crabs can use the discarded shell as their new home and leave their old shells for others. This process continues until each crab has a new shell that fits, illustrating the concept of a vacancy chain in their ecosystem.
