Task Overview
Reading Passage
Tolerant Ecotypes Animal and plant species may sometimes find that their living conditions become altered in ways that threaten their survival. It response to these new threats to their environment, certain members of the species may evolve or adapt to tolerate the harsh conditions. These unique members of the species are known as tolerant ecotypes. Once a member of a species develops this tolerance, it will pass the trait on to its offspring, eventually creating a distinct group of tolerant ecotypes within the species that are able to survive in an otherwise harmful environment

5.语言使用原文:The passage is talking about tolerance ecotest. The passage discusses tolerant ecotypes. (将"tolerance ecotest"改为正确的"tolerant ecotypes"。) It's about that some plants or animals move to a new environment, but they can't tolerate the new condition. It explains how certain plants or animals adapt to new environments that they initially cannot tolerate. (将句子结构进行了调整,使其更自然。) In this lecture, the professor gives an example of a kind of plant called Campion campion (将"Campion"改为小写的"campion"。). When the Campion campion is removed, it will die and cannot live. But if those Campion campion plants grow in a kind of soil called the contaminated soil, if they move, they can also live in the new place. And their seeds can grow in the contaminated soil as well. But if they just plant those seeds in normal soils, those plants cannot live and the seeds cannot grow up.
修订版(140词):
The passage discusses tolerant ecotypes, explaining how certain plants or animals adapt to new environments that they initially cannot tolerate. In the lecture, the professor provides an example of a plant called campion. It is known that campion plants typically cannot survive in metal-contaminated soil. However, scientists discovered some campion plants growing in copper-contaminated soil. Interestingly, seeds from these plants were also able to germinate and grow in the contaminated soil. In contrast, when seeds from regular campion plants that had not been exposed to contaminated soil were planted in the copper-contaminated soil, they failed to grow. This example illustrates the concept of tolerant ecotypes, as the campion plants growing in contaminated soil adapted to their environment and passed on this tolerance to their offspring, creating a distinct group within the species that can survive in otherwise harmful conditions.
