Task Overview
Reading Passage
Like many people, I was happy when the university opened a coffeehouse. A good coffeehouse is a perfect place to meet people or to study while having a coffee. Unfortunately, our coffeehouse is usually empty, so it’s not a good place to meet people. And the lighting there is very poor, so it’s not a good place to study, either. A coffeehouse seemed like a great idea, but it just hasn’t worked out, and the time has come for the university to close it. Sincerely, Marvin Baker

Revised (140 words): In the letter, a student thinks that the school should close the coffeehouse for two reasons. First, it is empty during the day, making it an unsuitable place to meet other people. Secondly, the poor lighting makes it an unfavorable place to study. However, in the listening, the woman disagrees with him. She argues that there are not many people during daytime hours because students are busy with classes and jobs. In contrast, many students visit the coffeehouse in the evening to socialize and unwind after a long day. Furthermore, she mentions that although the lighting used to be inadequate, recent renovations have improved it significantly. Now, the lighting is as good as in the library, with every table having a bright light. Therefore, she believes that closing the coffeehouse is not necessary.
