Task Overview

Professor

Let’s discuss how teachers’ job performance is assessed or evaluated. Regular evaluations of teachers help to ensure that students receive high-quality instruction, that good teachers are rewarded, and that struggling teachers receive help to improve. But what is the best way to evaluate teachers? Should teachers be evaluated based on their students’ test scores? Should more-experienced teachers evaluate less-experienced teachers? Should students’ feedback be considered? Which approach is best, and why?

Student A

I think experienced senior teachers are the best source of information for teacher evaluations. School leaders can assign experienced teachers to observe their fellow teachers periodically during class, and these senior teachers can then provide feedback on their colleagues’ performance. An experienced teacher has the knowledge to determine what other teachers are doing well and what needs improvement.

Student B

I’m not convinced that any one person’s occasional visits to a classroom would provide accurate information. I’d like a more objective, fairer source of data, so I’d prefer to rely on test scores to inform teacher evaluations. If all students take the same test, and some classes perform better than others, then we know which teachers have been most successful.

Teacher's job performance can be assessed by numorous ways such as attitudes of senior teachers, students' scores, and so on. However, I think both of the mentioned ways are unfair. In my opinion, students' feedback is top priority to determine teachers' performance. Attitudes from senior teachers may include personal bias, so their evaluation may be unfair. Besides, students' score of tests can only reflect teacher's performance on theoratical teaching, and whether teachers apply an appropriate teaching style can not be deduced from scores. It is universally acknowledged that teachers not only teach knowledge on books, but also shoulder the responsibility of cultivating students to have positive views towards life. Students' feedback can fully reflect teachers' teaching styles and whether they appreciate teachers' overall performance including theoratical teaching, attitudes to students, views on drawbacks in life, and so on. So only by comprehensively learn from students' feedback can teachers' performance be better assessed.

Section Title: 6 Article Revision

Evaluating a teacher's job performance can be approached through various methods, such as senior teachers' opinions or students' test scores. However, I believe that these methods may not provide a fair assessment. In my view, prioritizing students' feedback is the most effective way to gauge a teacher's performance. Relying on senior teachers' evaluations could potentially introduce personal biases, leading to unfair judgments. Moreover, test scores primarily reflect a teacher's ability to convey theoretical knowledge and do not necessarily indicate the appropriateness of their teaching style.

It is widely recognized that teachers play a crucial role in not only imparting textbook knowledge but also nurturing students' positive outlook on life. Students' feedback can offer valuable insights into a teacher's teaching style and their overall performance, encompassing aspects such as theoretical instruction, attitude towards students, and perspectives on life challenges. Therefore, by thoroughly considering students' feedback, we can more accurately assess a teacher's performance and contribute to their professional growth. (163 words)
