Create Student Committee to Decide Funding for Student Organizations   I think students should be in charge of deciding which student organizations (for example, the jazz band or the hiking club) receive money from the university. Students should also be in charge of how much money each organization receives. A special committee made up of students could be created to make these decisions. Currently, these funding decisions are made by university administrators, but a student committee would know better than the administrators which organizations are most important to students and most deserving of the university's financial support. I’m sure a lot of students would be interested in serving on the committee, and those who do serve will gain valuable leadership experience.

Vraag

The man expresses his opinion of the letter writer's proposal. State his opinion and explain the reasons he gives for holding that opinion.

He thinks that students are too close to the situation and may not be as objective or fair as university administrators, potentially favoring their friends' groups or their own groups. Furthermore, he doubts that there would be enough students interested in serving on the committee due to existing leadership positions being unfilled, such as the Student Council lacking a vice president, and students being too busy with other commitments.

Original: A student suggests that school need allocate its funding to student organizations. The man in the conversation didn't agree with it. Firstly, the students are too close to make decisions. The students will be subjective as they may allocate the money to their friends' group. It's not fair. Second, he argues that many students are not interested in being in student leadership because students are always so busy in their study. They have not enough time to do these student organization jobs. So it's not suitable for students to be the leadership to make decisions.

Corrected: A student suggests that school need the school needs (需要改为需要,以匹配主语) to allocate its funding to student organizations. The man in the conversation didn't does not (使用一般现在时,而不是过去时) agree with it. Firstly, the students are too close to make decisions. The students will be subjective as they may allocate the money to their friends' groups (复数形式,因为可能有多个团体). It's not fair. Second, he argues that many students are not interested in being in student leadership because students are always so busy in their study with their studies (用复数形式表示学习的多个方面). They have not insufficient (使用更高级的词汇) time to do these student organization jobs. So it's not suitable for students to be the leadership in leadership positions (更自然的表达方式) to make decisions.

Revised (140 words): The student suggests that the school needs to allocate its funding to student organizations. However, the man in the conversation does not agree with this proposal. He believes that students are too close to the situation, which may lead them to make subjective decisions, such as allocating funds to their friends' groups, resulting in unfairness. Furthermore, he argues that many students are not interested in taking on leadership roles due to their busy schedules and involvement in their studies. As a result, they have insufficient time to dedicate themselves to managing student organizations effectively. Therefore, it is not suitable for students to hold leadership positions when making decisions about funding allocation for student organizations. Instead, having university administrators make these decisions would ensure a more objective and fair distribution of funds.

5.Language Use

Original: According to a recent article, a student suggests the university should create a student committee for them to design how to allocate the funding for student organizations instead of by the university administration. This is because students know the situation better so they could make the best allocation for the funding. Furthermore, through the process, students could learn and gain valuable leadership experience. However, the men in the conversation disagreed with this proposal. First, he claims that students are too close to the situation so they cannot be as objective as the administrators. Furthermore, he claims that they are going to have a hard time to find students to serve on the committee because it is such a big commitment and takes up a lot of time.

Corrected: According to a recent article, a student suggests that the university should create a student committee for them to determine how to allocate funding for student organizations, rather than having it done by university administration(changed "instead of by" to "rather than having it done by" for better clarity). This is because students have better knowledge of the situation(changed "know" to "have better knowledge" for advanced vocabulary), allowing them to make optimal allocations for funding. Moreover, through this process, students can acquire valuable leadership experience. However, the man in the conversation disagrees with this proposal. Firstly, he argues that students are too close to the situation and cannot be as objective as administrators(changed "claims" to "argues" for variety). Additionally, he asserts that it would be difficult to find students willing to serve on the committee due to its significant time commitment(rephrased sentence for better flow).

Original Answer: The school is planning to create a student committee to decide funding for student organizations, but the mayor disagrees with this plan for two reasons. The man disagrees with the proposal of creating a student committee to decide funding for student organizations for two reasons. (将“the mayor”改为“the man”,以更准确地描述听力材料中的角色。) First, he thinks that the students are too close to the committee, so they can't distribute the funding fairly, because they may give more funding to their own groups or their friends' groups. First, he believes that students might not be objective in distributing the funds fairly since they could favor their own groups or their friends' groups. (简化句子结构,使表达更自然。) Secondly, the mayor thinks that it is hard for schools to find volunteers to serve this committee, because the students already be a member of a group, so they are busy. Secondly, the man thinks it would be difficult for schools to find volunteers for this committee since students are already members of other groups and are busy. (将“the mayor”改为“the man”,修正语法错误,使句子更流畅。) They don't have time to be a volunteer to the student committee.

Revised Answer (140 words): The man disagrees with the proposal of creating a student committee to decide funding for student organizations for two reasons. First, he believes that students might not be objective in distributing the funds fairly since they could favor their own groups or their friends' groups. This lack of objectivity could lead to biased decisions and an unfair allocation of resources. Secondly, the man thinks it would be difficult for schools to find volunteers for this committee since students are already members of other groups and are busy with their academic and extracurricular activities. As a result, they might not have enough time to dedicate to the student committee, making it challenging for the school to form an effective and committed group of volunteers.
