Nomadic Phase Certain insects spend time in both extended periods of settlement and extended periods of travel. During a period of travel, the entire group will continually move from one place to another. This is known as a nomadic phase. A nomadic phase may begin because a group of insects has a temporary need for additional resources that cannot be found in the area near the nest. Thus, the group must travel in search of these resources. Once the need for additional resources is over the nomadic phase ends and the group settles again in one location.

5.语言使用Original Answer: Well, the reading talks about the term nomadic phase, and nomadic phase means a group will move continually from one place to another place because of the lack of resources. For example, the ant live in a colony. When they have a lot of baby ants birth, the baby ants will require a lot of food and the original place cannot supply such more food for the baby ant. Therefore, the entire colony will leave the nest and go to find a new place that the food can supply the whole baby ants. And this process will return again and again until the baby ants grow up and they don't need that much food anymore and they will find a place to build their new nest until the baby ants birth again.
Corrected Answer: The reading discusses the concept of a nomadic phase, which refers to a group continuously moving from one location to another due to resource scarcity. For instance, ants live in colonies. When numerous baby ants are born, they require an abundant food supply that their current location cannot provide. Consequently, the entire colony leaves the nest to find a new location with sufficient food for all baby ants. This process repeats until the baby ants mature and no longer need as much food, at which point they settle in a new location and construct a new nest until more baby ants are born. Revised 140-word Answer:
The reading discusses the concept of a nomadic phase, which refers to a group continuously moving from one location to another due to resource scarcity. For instance, ants live in colonies underground. The professor's lecture illustrates this phenomenon by describing how ant colonies undergo goal displacement to ensure the survival and growth of their young members, highlighting the importance of adaptation and resource management in the animal kingdom.
