Task Overview
Reading Passage
Palm oil, a liquid produced by palm trees and used for cooking and other purposes, has become very popular in recent years. As a result, the palm oil industry has had a dramatic impact on the economies and landscapes of countries in which it operates. When asked to make a recommendation about whether expanding palm oil production even more would be good or bad for the environment and the economy, many experts have stated that palm oil production has several positive and should be expanded. First, the experts point out that palm tree farming helps preserve the world's forests. Palm trees have a very high oil yield- - far higher than that of other crops. For this reason, farming palm trees requires less land than farming other crops to produce the same economic value. Since palm tree farms require relatively little (compared with many other crops), palm tree plantations require the clearing of smaller areas of forest than many other crops would, In other words, palm tree farms cause less deforestation and therefore have a lesser negative impact on the environment than other types of crops. Second, palm oil is sometimes used to produce biodiesel, a fuel for motor vehicles. Using biodiesel in vehicle engines creates fewer carbon emissions than using traditional fossil fuels does. Carbon emissions are known to contribute to climate change. Biodiesel from palm oil, when used as an alternative to fossil fuels, can help reduce this effect. Third, palm oil production helps reduce poverty among small-scale farmers. About 50 percent to 70 percent of land used for farming in palm-oil- producing countries is actually cleared by small-scale low-income family farmers. Growing palm trees is usually more profitable for such farmers than growing other crops, and it has in many cases helped improve the farmers' standard of living.

The lecture casts doubt on the reading's claims about expending palm oil production, arguing that it may have numerous advantages, such as forests protection, less emissions, and high profit margin. Firstly, the reading passage maintains that the palm tree has a high oil yield, so it may occupy less land and preserve the forest. Conversely, the lecture contends that farmers clear more lands to produce palm oil because of the growing demand of this desirable oils. For example, an area of forest about 7000 square meters were cleared in one country. More lands were cultivated, which could not support that palm oil production contributes to the forest preservation. Secondly, the lecture challenges the reading's claims that it will create less carbon dioxide by producing biodiesel for motor vehicles. However, the lecture argues that the growth of palm generates more carbon emissions. Moreover, farmers clean lands by burning vegetations and plant material such as peat, which cause more air pollution. Lastly, while the reading passage asserts that small-scale farmers could get rid of poverty by producing palm oil, it is important to consider the control of profits. Large-scale farmers own the farm and control the profits of palm oil. In this situation, small-scale farmers could get little in return. Taking into account these counterarguments presented in the lecture, it becomes clear that there is insufficient evidence to support claims made in the reading passage regarding the benefits of producing palm oil.

2.预估分数 Estimated Score: 25
Example 1: Original: "For example, an area of forest about 7000 square meters were cleared in one country." Improved: "For example, in just one country, an area of forest equivalent to about 7,000 square meters is cleared every minute to make room for the palm trees."
Example 2: Original: "Moreover, farmers clean lands by burning vegetations and plant material such as peat, which cause more air pollution." Improved: "Moreover, farmers clear land for palm tree farming by burning the existing vegetation and plant material like peat, which releases significant amounts of carbon emissions into the atmosphere."
4.文章结构与组织 The essay has a clear structure with an introduction, body paragraphs addressing each point from the lecture, and a conclusion. However, there is room for improvement in terms of organization and transitions between ideas. The introduction could be more concise and clearly state that the lecture opposes the reading passage's claims. Additionally, transitions between paragraphs could be smoother to help guide the reader through the essay.
Example 1: Original: "The lecture casts doubt on the reading's claims about expending palm oil production, arguing that it may have numerous advantages, such as forests protection, less emissions, and high profit margin." Improved: "The lecture casts doubt on the reading's claims about expanding palm oil production by presenting counterarguments related to forest preservation, carbon emissions, and small-scale farmers' profits."
Example 2: Original: "Secondly, the lecture challenges the reading's claims that it will create less carbon dioxide by producing biodiesel for motor vehicles." Improved: "Secondly, although the reading passage suggests that producing biodiesel from palm oil results in fewer carbon emissions compared to traditional fuels, the lecture challenges this claim by highlighting additional emissions generated during palm tree farming."

Revised essay: Section title: 7.文章批改
The lecture casts doubt on the reading's claims about expanding (expending -> expanding) palm oil production, arguing that it may have numerous advantages, such as forest protection (forests protection, protection -> forest protection), fewer emissions (less emissions, and emissions -> fewer emissions), and a high profit margin. Firstly, the reading passage maintains that the palm tree has a high oil yield, so it may occupy less land and preserve the forest. Conversely, the lecture contends that farmers clear more lands to produce palm oil because of the growing demand for these desirable oils (of this desirable oils. oils -> for these desirable oils). For example, an area of forest about 7000 square meters were was cleared in one country. country (were cleared -> was cleared). More lands were cultivated, which could not support that palm oil production contributes to the forest preservation. forest preservation (the forest preservation -> forest preservation).
Secondly, the lecture challenges the reading's claims that it will create less carbon dioxide by producing biodiesel for motor vehicles. However, the lecture argues that the growth of palm generates more carbon emissions. Moreover, farmers clean lands by burning vegetations vegetation and plant material such as peat, peat (vegetations and plant material -> vegetation and plant material), which cause more air pollution.
Lastly, while the reading passage asserts that small-scale farmers could get rid of poverty by producing palm oil, it is important to consider the control of profits. profits (the control of profits -> control of profits). Large-scale farmers own the farm and control the profits of palm oil. profits from palm oil production (the profits of palm oil -> profits from palm oil production).
