Task Overview

Reading Passage

No Sports on the Dining Hall Lawn The open grassy area in front of the dining hall is one of the nicest features of our campus. Unfortunately, though, the grass is regularly trampled on and damaged by students playing games like soccer and Frisbee, resulting in ugly bare patches of dirt. I think the university should prohibit students from playing sports on the dining-hall lawn, so that the grass will look nicer. Banning sports from the lawn shouldn’t inconvenience anyone, since there are fields next to the gym where students can play sports instead.

Original: A student proposes that the school should prohibit students from playing sports on the dining hall lawn. However, the woman does not think this is a great idea for two reasons. First, she mentions that since the lawn is centrally located, everyone walks across it every day, and the traffic is terrible there. As a result, forbidding students from working playing (原文中的"working"应改为"playing",因为这里讨论的是禁止在草坪上玩耍,而不是工作。) there cannot solve the problem. The situation will still look terrible. Second, she also mentions that the gym is not a substitute because people just want to have little fun between classes and there is a lot of work distance (原文中的"work"应改为"distance",因为这里讨论的是体育馆距离远,而不是工作量。) between the building and the gym. As a result, it's not a great solution.

Revised (140 words): A student proposes that the university should prohibit students from engaging in sports activities on the dining hall lawn. However, the woman disagrees with this proposal for two main reasons. Firstly, she points out that since the lawn is centrally situated on campus, numerous students walk across it daily, resulting in significant foot traffic. Consequently, banning sports activities on the lawn would not resolve the issue as it would still appear unattractive. Secondly, she highlights that using the gym as an alternative location is impractical due to its considerable distance from the main campus buildings. Students merely seek a convenient spot to have a brief recreational break between classes, and the gym's remote location does not cater to this need. Therefore, the proposed solution is deemed ineffective in addressing the problem.

Revised Answer (140 words):

The proposal suggests that the school should prohibit students from playing sports on the dining hall lawn, as it could help the lawn look nicer. However, the woman is not in agreement with this idea; she believes that this behavior may not be helpful. She explains that even if the school bans sports on the lawn, people will still cross it every day due to heavy foot traffic and time constraints. Therefore, banning students from playing on the lawn may not be beneficial or have a significant effect. Additionally, she points out that although students can play in the gym, it is quite far from classroom buildings. Some students only want to have a little fun during short breaks, like a 15-minute break between classes.

Original: Students suggest the university should forbidprohibit students from playing sports on the lawn in front of the dining hall. However, the womenwoman think this suggestion is useless. First, even though the school bans students from playing sports on the lawn, it still doesn't make any difference because the lawn is sitlocated in the middle of the busy classroom buildings. So there are always busy traffic and many people will pass through the lawn to the other buildings instead of walkwalking on the sidewalks. So it couldn't help improve the appearance of the grass. Second, the gym is not a good substitute for the lawn. Since when students hope to have a little fun between the classes, they just will go to the grassy area to play football for 15 minutes instead of walk a long distance to the edge of the campus to find the gym.

Revised (140 words): The university should prohibit students from playing sports on the lawn in front of the dining hall, but the woman believes this suggestion is ineffective. Firstly, even if sports are banned on the lawn, it won't make a significant difference because the lawn is located in the middle of busy classroom buildings. Consequently, there will always be heavy foot traffic, with many people passing through the lawn instead of walking on the sidewalks, which won't improve the grass's appearance. Secondly, the gym is not a suitable alternative to the lawn. Students who want to have some fun between classes will prefer going to the grassy area to play football for 15 minutes rather than walking a long distance to the edge of the campus to find the gym.

The speaker's delivery could be improved by focusing on clearer pronunciation and reducing pauses. Additionally, it is important to ensure that the speech has a consistent pace and fluidity. To improve in this area, the speaker should practice speaking aloud and work on enunciation.

4.Topic Development The response provided does address the proposal and the woman's opinion, but it could be better organized and more coherent. The speaker should work on clearly summarizing the proposal and then stating the woman's opinion with supporting reasons. To improve topic development, the speaker should practice outlining their response before speaking to ensure a well-structured answer with clear connections between ideas and sufficient support or examples.

5.Language Use

In the letter, the author suggests the university to that the university should (corrected for clarity and proper grammar) prohibit students playing sports on the dining hall wall from playing sports on the dining hall lawn (corrected for accurate vocabulary and clarity) to make the wall lawn (corrected for accurate vocabulary) seem nicer. However, the woman disagrees with the letter because she thinks this proposal will not help. Firstly, students will cause damage to the wall lawn (corrected for accurate vocabulary) not only because they are playing sports on it but also because everyone will walk on the wall lawn (corrected for accurate vocabulary). So if just students are forbidden playing sports, from playing sports, (corrected for proper grammar) there are still a lot of traffic on the wall lawn, (corrected for accurate vocabulary) and it will don't make the situation better. Secondly, the students have little fun on campus. If they are banned playing sports, from playing sports, (corrected for proper grammar) it can only have long work, which takes a lot of time.

Revised Answer (140 words):

In the letter, the author suggests that the university should prohibit students from playing sports on the dining hall lawn to make the lawn appear nicer. However, the woman disagrees with this proposal, believing it will not be effective. She argues that damage to the lawn is caused not only by students playing sports but also by people walking on it. Therefore, even if students are forbidden from playing sports, there will still be significant traffic on the lawn, and the situation will not improve. Additionally, she points out that students need opportunities for fun and relaxation on campus. If they are banned from playing sports on the lawn, they would have to walk a considerable distance to find an alternative location, which would consume valuable time.

However, the woman is highly doubtful of this proposal, and she is not sure this proposal will achieve anything. However, the woman expresses doubt about the effectiveness of this proposal. (简化了表达,更自然地描述女生的观点)

Her first reason is that only a small portion of the damage is made by the students playing sports because the lawn is located at the center of heavy traffic, so some students running late for their classes will not use the sidewalk as they are supposed to do, they are simply cut through the lawns and making damage to the lawns. Students running late for classes often cut through the lawn instead of using sidewalks, causing damage. (修改了句子结构,使表达更清晰)

So simply banning sports will not solve anything. Thus, merely banning sports would not resolve the issue. (使用了更高级的词汇)

And her second reason is that the field next to the gym is not a good substitute because the gym is located at the far side of the campus and it's a very long walk from the teaching building, so the field next to the gym will do little help to those students who only want to have fun with this little bit of time like their 15 minutes break between classes and their lunch break, so it will not be very helpful at all.
