Task Overview

Reading Passage

Student Art Display The university is currently considering possible locations on campus for displaying paintings and other artwork by students. I think the lobby at the entrance to the student center would be a great location. Since many students pass through the student center every day, artwork displayed in the lobby would be viewed by hundreds of people. Also, because the whole front of the building is made of glass windows, the lobby is filled with natural light. This makes it perfect for displaying artwork, which should have plenty of light to be seen and appreciated.

Question

Briefly summarize the proposal in the student's letter. Then state the woman's opinion about the proposal and explain the reasons she gives for holding that opinion.

The woman totally disagrees with this proposal. However, the woman strongly disagrees with this suggestion. (Changed "totally" to "strongly" for a more formal tone)

Revised Answer (140 words):

The student in the letter suggests that the lobby would be an ideal location for displaying student artworks and paintings. She believes that since numerous people pass through the student center, the paintings would be seen by a large audience. Additionally, the lobby's glass windows allow natural light to enter, which seems ideal for showcasing artwork. However, the woman strongly disagrees with this suggestion. She thinks that the lobby is too crowded for appreciating artwork, as people walking around would distract viewers. Furthermore, she believes that natural light is not suitable for displaying art, as it can be too bright on sunny days and too dark on cloudy days. Instead, she suggests using controlled, consistent lighting like that found in art museums to properly display and appreciate the artwork.

In the letter, the student proposes suggests ("suggests" is a more natural choice) to put the artwork in the lobby at the entrance to the student center because the center has many students and is full of natural light. But the girl doesn't agree with it. She insists argues ("argues" is a more appropriate word for expressing disagreement) that the number of students coming and going through the student center is huge and it could be destructive distracting ("distracting" better describes the issue with viewing artwork in a crowded space) for people to view the artwork. Since the center is always crowded with people, it's hard for people to appreciate it. Also, the weather is a problem. If it's a sunny day, it will be too bright. If it's a cloudy day, it will be too dark. Instead, the artworks need a constant light like the electric lights in an art museum because an electric light is always carefully controlled and stays at the same level. And these are the two reasons the girl suggested provided ("provided" is more accurate for giving reasons) and disagreed with the student proposal.

Original: in the announcement says The announcement states (more natural phrasing) that the university is taking on consideration using the lobby to display the students' art. Because this is a place where the students go in and out, so many people will be able to see the art. And the second, because this place has glass windows, so the art will be shown with natural light and this will look perfect. The woman, isn't disagree with this idea. Because this place is always covered and people who really want to see the art wouldn't be able to see it because there will always be people coming in and out. The second reason is because in sunny days this place is too bright and in cloudy days this place is too dark. So this doesn't have a controlled amount of light. She makes the sample museum, this kind of places, when they show art, have a very consistent and controlled type of light. And this is why she thinks so.

Revised (140 words): The announcement states that the university is considering using the lobby as a display area for student artwork due to its high foot traffic and natural light from glass windows. However, the woman disagrees with this proposal for two main reasons. First, she believes that the constant flow of people in the crowded lobby would make it difficult for viewers to appreciate the artwork without distractions. Second, she argues that although natural light may seem ideal, it can be inconsistent depending on weather conditions, making it unsuitable for displaying art. Instead, she suggests that controlled lighting, like that found in museums, would provide a more consistent and appropriate environment for showcasing artwork.

The reading package passage (replace "package" with "passage" for clarity) announces that the university is currently considering possible locations for displaying paintings and other artwork. The university decided on using the lobby. It has a high student traffic, so people would go there, and in particular, there will be windows for natural lighting. The woman in the conversation is against this idea. She starts off by saying that there will be too many students. The lobby will be crowded, and it will distract those that are trying to look at the painting. Secondly, she explains that natural light is too unreliable. If it is sunny, it will be too bright to appreciate the paintings. However, if it is cloudy, at the same time, it will be too dim. As you can see, the woman in the listening clearly disagrees with this plan.

Revised Answer (140 words):

The reading passage proposes that the university should display student artwork in the lobby of the student center due to its high foot traffic and natural lighting from windows. However, the woman in the conversation opposes this idea for two main reasons. First, she argues that the crowded nature of the lobby would make it difficult for viewers to appreciate and focus on the artwork amidst constant distractions from passing students. Second, she contends that natural lighting is not ideal for displaying art because its inconsistency can result in overly bright or dim conditions depending on weather conditions. Instead, she suggests using controlled electric lighting similar to what is found in art museums to ensure consistent illumination levels. Thus, the woman in the listening passage strongly disagrees with the proposed plan.

5.Language Use

In the letter, the student suggests that the lobby at the entrance to the student center should be a proper suitable (proper is not incorrect, but "suitable" sounds more natural) location to display artworks by students for two reasons. The first reason is that vast many (use "many" instead of "vast" for a more natural expression) students pass through the place every day. And the second reason is that the lobby is full of natural light. However, the woman in the conversation disagrees with the suggestion. Firstly, it is true that the lobby is full of people, but the lobby is so too (use "too" instead of "so" for a more accurate expression) crowded. There are too many people coming and going. As a result, these people will block the audience who want to appreciate the artworks. Secondly, the natural light is not a good light to appreciate artworks. It is too sunny, it is too bright on sunny days, and too dark on cloudy days. Actually, the light at an art museum is the consistent (remove "the" for a more natural flow) light, the light that is carefully controlled.

Revised Answer (140 words):

In the letter, the student suggests that the lobby at the entrance to the student center would be a suitable location to display student artwork for two reasons: many students pass through daily and it has ample natural light. However, the woman in the conversation disagrees with this proposal. She argues that although many people pass through, it's too crowded, making it difficult for viewers to appreciate the artwork without distractions. Additionally, she points out that natural light is not ideal for displaying art, as it can be too bright on sunny days and too dark on cloudy days. Instead, she suggests that consistent, carefully controlled lighting, like that found in art museums, would be more appropriate for showcasing student artwork.

In the letter, we learn that the writer suggests placing the art display in the entrance lobby for two reasons. First, many people pass by, and second, it has glass windows allowing natural light to fill the space. The woman in the conversation expresses strong disagreement. She counters the first point by saying that the lobby is always crowded and people cannot get a good view of the paintings because they will be distracted and their view can often get blocked. So, the art will not always be appreciated. Additionally, she explains that natural light is not ideal for paintings as it depends on external conditions. If it is too bright on a sunny day and it will be too dark on a cloudy day, she says that we need controlled light similar to that of an art museum.
