The professor discussed two drawbacks of vertical farming using examples. The large number of crops in vertical farms necessitates a considerable amount of energy and cost, which may negatively impact the environment. The second drawback is that vertical farming is not suitable for all crops; it works best for plants that do not require much space. For example, potatoes have complex root systems and grow deep in the soil. Due to limited space for roots in vertical farms, it is not possible to grow as many potatoes as traditional farming methods allow.
