Task Overview

Reading Passage

Optimal Foraging Food provides animals with the energy they need to survive. However, animals also lose energy in the process of obtaining, or foraging, for food. Therefore, in order to conserve energy, many animals behave in ways that minimize the energy they expend in the foraging process while at the same time maximizing their nutritional benefits. This energy-efficient approach to obtaining food is known as optimal foraging. The practice of optimal foraging allows animals to expend the least possible amount of energy while at the same time obtaining prey with high food value that will provide them with necessary nutrients.

Question

Well, in the reading, it talks about the optimal forging, In the reading, it discusses optimal foraging,(在阅读中,它讨论了最佳觅食策略,这里应该使用"discusses"而不是"talks about",使语言更加正式。)and it means that species can use the energy-efficient approach to obtain food. which refers to species using an energy-efficient approach to acquire food.(这里的表述可以更加简洁明了。)In the lecture, the professor talks about a kind of bird to illustrate this point. In the lecture, the professor uses a bird species as an example to demonstrate this concept.(这里的表述可以更加精确。)

Well, this bird lives near the water and feeds on shellfish. And usually, it just dives down and grabs shellfish and drops them to hit the rock, also so that they can open the shellfish and eat the meat there. This bird inhabits areas near water and consumes shellfish. Typically, it dives down, grabs a shellfish, and drops it onto rocks to crack open its shell and access the meat inside.(这里的表述可以更加清晰和连贯。)

Well, they have two ways to make the use of their energy. The bird employs two strategies to optimize its energy usage.(这里的表述可以更加简洁明了。)First off, they're going to carefully select the biggest shellfish in order to guarantee the possible meat. Firstly, it selectively chooses the largest shellfish to ensure maximum nutritional intake.(这里的表述可以更加精确。)And secondly, well, instead of flying too low or too high, it's just flying to the height about five meters, so that this is enough for them to crack the shellfish. Secondly, rather than flying too low or too high, it maintains an altitude of approximately five meters, which is sufficient to break the shellfish's shell upon impact.(这里的表述可以更加清晰和连贯。)

Otherwise, they were just wasting their time, wasting their energy. Otherwise, they would be wasting both time and energy.(这里的表述可以更加简洁明了。)So by doing this, this kind of birds are saving their money. By employing these strategies, these birds conserve their energy resources.(这里的表述可以更加精确。)

In the reading, it discusses optimal foraging, which refers to species using an energy-efficient approach to acquire food. In the lecture, the professor uses a bird species as an example to demonstrate this concept. This bird inhabits areas near water and consumes shellfish. Typically, it dives down, grabs a shellfish, and drops it onto rocks to crack open its shell and access the meat inside. The bird employs two strategies to optimize its energy usage. Firstly, it selectively chooses the largest shellfish to ensure maximum nutritional intake. Secondly, rather than flying too low or too high, it maintains an altitude of approximately five meters, which is sufficient to break the shellfish's shell upon impact. Otherwise, they would be wasting both time and energy. By employing these strategies, these birds conserve their energy resources.
