Task Overview
Reading Passage
Vernal Pools In some wetland areas, small pools of water form temporarily during the spring due to increased rainfall or melting snow, and then they dry up by midsummer. These small, shallow bodies of water are known as vernal pools , becauske they occur in the springtime. In contrast to larger bodies of water that exist year-round, these pools offer protection by providing a short-term habitat where certain animals can breed and where their voung can safely develop away from predators, By the time the temporary pools dry up, the young are mature enough to survive without the pools.

4.话题发展
In terms of topic development, the speaker provided a coherent response and explained the importance of vernal pools for wood frogs. However, the response could be better organized and more detailed. The speaker should start by clearly defining vernal pools and then explain how they provide a safe environment for wood frogs to lay their eggs, away from predators like fish. Additionally, the speaker should mention how tadpoles can survive when the pools dry up as they grow into adult frogs that can breathe air and live on land. To improve, the speaker should focus on providing a more structured response with clear connections between ideas and sufficient examples to support their points.
5.语言使用Original Answer: Burned tomb means he got water from the rain or the melt snow, so it comes from spring and it will dry up in the middle summer. And this water away from the other river and it has a termite time to survive. So it provides wood frogs a safe place to lay their eggs, because wood frogs, if they lay their eggs in a large river, their eggs would be eaten by the fish or some predators. So the vernal pool is the best place for wood frogs to lay eggs because it can protect them from their predators. And when the water dries up, the wood frog will grow up and they can go into the wood.
Corrected Answer: Vernal pools are formed by rainwater or melting snow during spring and dry up by midsummer. These pools are separate from other bodies of water and provide a temporary habitat for survival. They offer wood frogs a safe environment to lay their eggs, as laying them in larger rivers would expose them to fish and other predators. Vernal pools are ideal for wood frogs because they protect them from these threats. As the water dries up, the wood frogs mature and can move into wooded areas. Revised 140-word Answer:
Vernal pools are temporary bodies of water formed by rainwater or melting snow during spring, drying up by midsummer. These pools are distinct from other bodies of water, providing a short-term habitat for certain animals to breed safely away from predators. The lecture illustrates the importance of vernal pools for wood frogs, which rely on these pools to lay their eggs. Laying eggs in larger rivers would expose them to fish and other predators, making vernal pools the ideal environment for wood frogs. As the pools dry up, tadpoles grow into adult frogs that can breathe air and live on land, allowing them to survive without the pools. The following year, when the young frogs are ready to reproduce, they return to the same vernal pools to lay their eggs, continuing the cycle. This revised answer demonstrates advanced vocabulary, proper grammar, natural flow of statements, smooth transitions, and a strong conclusion.
