Task Overview
Reading Passage
Sweeping Generalization We often like to formulate ideas or principles that help us make decisions. For example, we may create one general principle, or rule, that we then apply to many different situations. But in this process we may make an error in reasoning, or thinking, if we ignore exceptions to that rule, that is, when we try to apply one general rule to all situations. This error in reasoning is known as a sweeping generalization. It is a mistake to apply one general rule to every situation because most general rules have exceptions in certain circumstances.

Revised Answer (140 words):
In the lecture, the professor uses one of his own personal experiences to illustrate the concept of sweeping generalization. The professor mentioned that shouting is considered very rude in public and nobody likes it. One day, at a crowded café, he placed his bag on the table with all his essential belongings inside, including keys, papers, and so on. Many people were present at that time. However, after leaving the café, he realized that he had left his bag behind. He rushed back and found his bag still at the table. A woman sitting next to him noticed it too but didn't shout to get his attention because she didn't want to disturb others, as no one usually shouts in a café. This situation demonstrates how applying a general rule, like not shouting in public, can lead to exceptions and exemplifies the concept of sweeping generalization.
