Task Overview
Reading Passage
Vegetative Propagation Although most plants reproduce primarily through the production and dispersal of seeds, some species are able to reproduce, or propagate, in other ways. One way involves the production of new plants from parts of a parent plant, such as stems or roots. This is called *vegetative propagation* . Offspring formed through vegetative propagation are genetically identical to their parent plants. The fact that these plants are identical is of great interest in agriculture, since by taking advantage of this method of reproduction, farmers can consistently cultivate plants with certain desirable traits.

修订版(140字):
Vegetative propagation is a method that involves producing new plants from parts of a parent plant, like stems or roots. When strawberry plants produce runners, they grow far from the parent plant, develop new roots, and become independent strawberry plants. These plants, grown from seeds, exhibit various characteristics. Some plants grown from seeds will produce berries with different qualities. You can select runners from a strawberry plant with large, red, sweet fruit and plant them to ensure that all new strawberry plants produce identical fruit. This method is beneficial for farmers because it allows them to cultivate strawberries with consistent desirable traits, such as size, color, and taste.
