In 1912 a bookseller named Wilfrid M. Voynich acquired a beautifully illustrated handwritten book (manuscript) written on vellum (vellum is a material that was used for writing before the introduction of paper). The “Voynich manuscript,” as it became known, resembles manuscripts written in the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries. However, it is written in a completely unknown script. To date, no one has been able to decode the script and understand the book’s content. Several theories have been proposed to explain the origin of the Voynich manuscript. One theory is that the manuscript is a genuine work on some scientific or magical subject composed in a complex secret code. Anthony Ascham, a sixteenth-century physician and botanist, has been identified as a possible author, since many plant illustrations in the Voynich manuscript are quite similar to those in Ascham’s book on medicinal plants, A Little Herbal, published in 1550.According to some other theories, the manuscript is really a fake and its text has no real meaning. For example, it has been proposed the manuscript was created by Edward Kelley, a sixteenth-century personality who extracted money from nobles across Europe by pretending to have magical powers. Kelley may have created the manuscript as a fake magical book to sell to a wealthy noble. He used a made-up alphabet in a completely random order. It looks like a book of magical secrets, but there is no meaningful underlying text.Another theory is that the manuscript is actually a modern fake created by Wilfrid M. Voynich himself. As an antique book dealer, Voynich certainly had the knowledge of what old manuscripts should look like and could have created a fake one. Perhaps Voynich’s plan was to sell the fake as a mysterious old book if he received an attractive offer.

The reading presents three theories that have been proposed to explain the origin of the Voynich manuscript. However, the listening thinks that none of them are convincing. First. The reading says that the manuscript may be written by Anthorny Ascham who was a sixteenth-century physician and botanist. However, the listener thinks that Ascham cannot be the author. This is because Ascham was an ordinary physician, and the knowledge in his book was common. It is unlikely that Ascham could write such a genuine work. Second, the reading assumes that Voynich manuscript may be a fake created by Edward Kelley. However, the listening points out that the rich people in 16 century are easy to fool. If Kelley just wanted to sell it for money, it didn't need to do such a complex work. Third, the reading thinks that the manuscript is actually a modern fake created by Willfrid M. Voynich himself. However, the listening disagrees. The listening add the detail that the ink and manuscript was proved by date technology that they are from 400 years ago. It is possible for Voynich to get a manuscript from 400 years ago, but how can he get ink from 400 years ago ? So, it is likely that it is actually a real one.

The reading passage presents three theories regarding the origin of the Voynich manuscript, while the listening passage casts doubt on each of these theories.

Firstly, the reading suggests that Anthony Ascham, a sixteenth-century physician and botanist, might have authored the manuscript as it contains plant illustrations similar to those in his book, A Little Herbal. However, the listening counters this argument by stating that Ascham was an ordinary physician with no original ideas in his books. Therefore, it seems implausible that he would create such an elaborately coded and secretive document.

Secondly, the reading posits that Edward Kelley may have fabricated the manuscript as a fake magical book to deceive wealthy nobles. Nonetheless, the listening disputes this notion by pointing out that people in the sixteenth century were easily fooled and creating such a complex work would have been unnecessary for Kelley's purposes. A simpler book would have sufficed to achieve his goals.

Lastly, the reading speculates that Wilfrid M. Voynich himself could have created a modern forgery of the manuscript to sell as a mysterious old book. Contrarily, the listening provides evidence that both the vellum pages and ink used in the manuscript are at least 400 years old. While Voynich might have obtained old vellum pages for his forgery, acquiring 400-year-old ink would be highly improbable.

In light of these points made by the listening passage, it becomes evident that none of the theories presented in the reading are convincing explanations for the origin of the Voynich manuscript. (253 words)

Revised essay: Article Revision

The reading passage presents three theories that have been proposed to explain regarding the origin of the Voynich manuscript. However, the listening thinks that none of them are convincing. ¶ First. The reading says that the manuscript may be written by Anthorny Ascham who was manuscript, while the listening passage casts doubt on each of these theories (Changed "文章批改" to "Article Revision" for a more appropriate title, and rephrased the first sentence to better introduce the context).

Firstly, the reading suggests that Anthony Ascham, a sixteenth-century physician and botanist. botanist, might have authored the manuscript as it contains plant illustrations similar to those in his book, A Little Herbal. However, the listener thinks that Ascham cannot be the author. This is because listening counters this argument by stating that Ascham was an ordinary physician, and the knowledge physician with no original ideas in his books (Replaced "the listener thinks" with "the listening counters this argument"). Therefore, it seems implausible that he would create such an elaborately coded and secretive document.

Secondly, the reading posits that Edward Kelley may have fabricated the manuscript as a fake magical book was common. It is unlikely that Ascham could write to deceive wealthy nobles. Nonetheless, the listening disputes this notion by pointing out that people in the sixteenth century were easily fooled and creating such a genuine work. ¶ Second, the reading assumes that Voynich manuscript may be a fake created by Edward Kelley. However, the listening points out that the complex work would have been unnecessary for Kelley's purposes (Rephrased "the rich people in 16 century are easy to fool. If Kelley just wanted to sell it for money, it didn't need to do such a complex work. ¶ Third, the reading thinks that the manuscript is actually a modern fake created by Willfrid fool" for clarity). A simpler book would have sufficed to achieve his goals.

Lastly, the reading speculates that Wilfrid M. Voynich himself. However, the listening disagrees. The listening add the detail that the himself could have created a modern forgery of the manuscript to sell as a mysterious old book. Contrarily, the listening provides evidence that both the vellum pages and ink and manuscript was proved by date technology that they used in the manuscript are from at least 400 years ago. It is possible for old (Changed "the listening add" to "the listening provides evidence"). While Voynich to get a manuscript from 400 years ago, but how might have obtained old vellum pages for his forgery, acquiring 400-year-old ink would be highly improbable (Rephrased "how can he get ink from 400 years ago ? So, ago?" for better flow).

In light of these points made by the listening passage, it is likely that it is actually a real one.becomes evident that none of the theories presented in the reading are convincing explanations for the origin of the Voynich manuscript (Reworded the conclusion to better summarize the essay).

In the reading material, the author cites three theories to illustrate the origin of the mysterious manuscripts. The lecturer in the listening material, on the other hand, argues that all theories proposed are unconvincing, which casts doubt on each claim made in the reading respectively. To begin with, the reading passage suggests that the author of the manuscript maybe a famous physician and botanist, who used the code to document medicinal plants. Conversely, the lecturer believes that there are flaws in the author’s position, claiming in the lecture that it was not likely for an ordinary scientist whose book didn't contain any original idea to create such important manuscript. Moreover, the plant descriptions in his books are quite common with well-known sources so that it's not necessary to use such an elaborate secret language to record them. Combining Ascham's characteristic with the feature of his books, we can jump into the conclusion that he was not the author of the code. Secondly, the author indicates that the manuscript might be a made-up alphabet with no real meaning whereas the lecturer proves that this statement is indefensible by pointing out that the creator took good care of these codes and compiled them with great effort. He goes on to say that it was unnecessary to do so much work to construct such a complex alphabet system in sake of money because people in the sixteenth-century were too easy to fool. Finally, the third theory proposed by the author is that the manuscript is a modern fake to disguise a mysterious old book. Obviously, the lecturer’s argument disproves its counterpart in the reading, forcefully presenting that the modern technology certifies that the manuscript material was dated from 400 years ago with the old vellum and ink. If it is a trick made by the modern antique book dealer, the question to the source of the ink which was made several centuries ago can't be answered by the hypothesis.

In the reading material, the author presents three theories regarding the origin of the enigmatic Voynich manuscript. However, the lecturer in the listening material contends that all proposed theories are implausible, casting doubt on each claim made in the reading respectively.

Firstly, the reading passage suggests that Anthony Ascham, a renowned physician and botanist, may have authored the manuscript using a coded language to document medicinal plants. In contrast, the lecturer argues that this theory is flawed. He posits that it is unlikely for an ordinary scientist, whose work contained no original ideas, to create such an important manuscript. Furthermore, he points out that Ascham's plant descriptions were based on common knowledge and well-known sources; thus, it would be unnecessary to employ such an elaborate secret language for recording them. Taking into account Ascham's characteristics and his books' features, it can be concluded that he was not the author of this coded manuscript.

Secondly, the author proposes that Edward Kelley might have created a fake manuscript with a made-up alphabet devoid of any real meaning. The lecturer refutes this claim by emphasizing that whoever created these codes took great care in crafting them with considerable effort. He asserts that constructing such a complex alphabet system solely for monetary gain would have been unnecessary since people in the sixteenth century were easily deceived.

Lastly, the third theory put forth by the author posits that Wilfrid M. Voynich himself created a modern forgery of an ancient mysterious book. The lecturer effectively disproves this notion by highlighting modern technology's ability to date both vellum and ink used in creating manuscripts; in this case, they were found to be at least 400 years old. This evidence raises questions about how Voynich could have obtained centuries-old ink if he had indeed forged this manuscript as a modern antique book dealer.

Overall, the lecturer's arguments challenge each of the theories presented in the reading passage, casting doubt on their validity and leaving the true origin of the Voynich manuscript still shrouded in mystery. (340 words)

However, in accordance to the lecture, Ascham was nobody but an ordinary scholar and no other extraordinary notions were raised in his books A Little Herbal. Moreover, mentioned by reading, the it could be Edward Kelly who created the book and sold it to the nobles, extracting their money. While, the lecture stands for an opposite idea, claims that it wouldn't be necessary to encode the manuscript in such complexed way, far beyond the people in 16th century could reach. Improvement Example 1: In contrast to the reading's claim that Edward Kelly created the book to sell it to nobles, the lecture argues that it wouldn't be necessary to encode the manuscript in such a complex way.

Improvement Suggestion 2: Ensure each paragraph focuses on one specific point from the listening passage that challenges a theory presented in the reading passage. This will help your essay to be more logically organized.

Improvement Example 2: In the second paragraph, focus solely on the point about Edward Kelly and why it is unlikely that he created the Voynich Manuscript. Then, in a separate paragraph, discuss the point about Voynich being an antique dealer and the evidence against him creating the manuscript.

Section Title: 6.文章修订

The reading passage and the lecture both discuss the Voynich Manuscript, with the former presenting several theories about its origin and content, while the latter refutes each of these theories.

Firstly, the reading suggests that Anthony Ascham, a physician and botanist, could have written the manuscript in a complex secret code on some scientific or magical subject. However, the lecture counters this by stating that Ascham was an ordinary scholar whose works did not contain any original ideas. His book A Little Herbal was merely a description of common plants based on well-known sources. Therefore, it seems unlikely that he would have authored such an elaborately coded document.

Secondly, the reading posits that Edward Kelley may have created the manuscript as a fake magical book to sell to wealthy nobles. Contrarily, the lecture argues that it would not have been necessary for Kelley to create such a complex fake since people in the 16th century were easily fooled. If his goal was to deceive others for financial gain, he could have achieved this with a much simpler book.

Lastly, the reading proposes that Wilfrid M. Voynich himself could have fabricated the manuscript as a modern fake in order to sell it if he received an attractive offer. The reading passage and the listening comprehension discuss the potential sources of a beautiful illustrated handwritten book-the Voynich manuscript. While the reading proposes three authors of the book, the listening challenges these by suggesting that none of the people suggested by reading are the real author. Firstly, the author claims that Anthony Ascham, an ancient physician and botanist is the author because many plant illustrations in the Voynich manuscript resemble these in his previous book. However, the professor refutes this view, arguing that Ascham is not the author. According to him, the manuscript conveyed information so powerful and important to use while Ascham is just an ordinary author with no original ideas. Since the manuscript is not the type of book Ascham writes, he is not the author. Secondly, the author asserts that the book is just a fake magical book created by Edward Kelley to trick a noble for his money with no real underlying meaning. In contrast, the professor maintains a different view, stating that the manuscript is not likely a fake magical book to fool people. He further explains that it is a complex book looking like a real code book while people in the past were easy to play with. To extract money, Kelley didn’t need to take so much work. Instead, he can just made a simpler book to fulfill his purpose. Therefore, Kelley is not the author. Last but not the least, the author states that the bookseller- Wilfrid Voynich himself is the author because he knew what old manuscripts should look like. As a result, he created this fake one. Contrary to the reading’s view, the professor believes that we can now date the materials of the book which tells us that both the ink and the vellum are four hundred years old. That rules out the possibility that Voynich himself is the author because although he can get vellum older than four hundred years, he can by no means to get four hundred years old ink. Hence, the book must have been created for centuries before Voynich obtained it.

The reading passage and the listening comprehension discuss the potential origins of a beautifully illustrated handwritten book - the Voynich manuscript. While the reading proposes three possible authors of the book, the listening challenges these by suggesting that none of the people mentioned in the reading are likely to be the real author.

Firstly, the reading claims that Anthony Ascham, a sixteenth-century physician and botanist, could be the author because many plant illustrations in the Voynich manuscript resemble those in his previous book. However, the professor refutes this view, arguing that Ascham is not a suitable candidate. According to him, the manuscript conveys information so powerful and important that it uses a secret code; while Ascham is just an ordinary author with no original ideas. The codes in the book are meant to keep secrets hidden, but in his book "A Little Herbal," Ascham merely described common plants based on other well-known sources. Since this type of content does not align with what Ascham typically writes, he is unlikely to be its author.

Secondly, the reading asserts that Edward Kelley may have created a fake magical book with no real underlying meaning to trick nobles for their money. In contrast, the professor maintains a different view, stating that it is unlikely Kelley created such an elaborate fake for this purpose. He further explains that people in Kelley's time were relatively easy to deceive; thus creating such an intricate work would have been unnecessary. If Kelley wanted to create a fake for monetary gain, there would be no reason for him to put so much effort into creating a complex manuscript like this when a simpler one would have sufficed. Therefore, Kelley is not likely to be its author.

Lastly, the reading suggests that Wilfrid Voynich himself could be responsible for creating this mysterious manuscript since he had knowledge about what old manuscripts should look like. Contrary to the reading's view, the professor believes that modern methods of dating materials reveal that both the ink and the vellum used in the manuscript are at least 400 years old. This fact rules out Voynich as its author because, although he might have been able to obtain vellum from that time period, it would have been nearly impossible for him to acquire 400-year-old ink. Hence, the manuscript must have been created centuries before Voynich obtained it. (396 words)

First, the author states that the content of Voynich manuscript is about scientific or magical subject composed in a complex secret code when it comes to be similar with Ascham's book. However, the professor contradicts this idea in terms of Ascham himself. As Ascham is an ordinary person working on common plants, it is unlikely for him to be the author who demonstrates a command of such complex kind of knowledge. Second, the author cites a theory that Kelley created this book that serving the purpose of making money. Nevertheless, the professor indicates that it is in fact that people in general public at that time were easy to be fooled, which means it is not possible for Kelley to put a lot of work in creating just for interests. Last, the author asserts that Voynich make this object himself to sell, but the professor finds that the ink was from 400 years ago. Considering its existence, there is no denying that Voynich is unable to obtain it and make a fake manuscript.

Section Title: 6.文章修订

In the lecture, the speaker presents several counterarguments to the theories regarding the origin of the Voynich manuscript as proposed in the reading passage. The professor effectively challenges each theory with compelling evidence.

Firstly, the reading passage suggests that Anthony Ascham, a sixteenth-century physician and botanist, could be the author of the Voynich manuscript due to similarities between its plant illustrations and those in Ascham's book, A Little Herbal. However, the lecturer disputes this notion by highlighting that Ascham was an ordinary scientist whose works were based on well-known sources and lacked original ideas. Consequently, it seems implausible for him to have authored such a complex and secretive document.

Secondly, the passage posits that Edward Kelley may have created the manuscript as a fake magical book to deceive wealthy nobles for financial gain. Contrarily, the speaker points out that people during Kelley's time were easily fooled; thus, there would be no need for him to invest considerable effort into crafting such an intricate manuscript when a simpler one would have sufficed.

Lastly, while the reading suggests that Wilfrid M. Voynich himself might have fabricated the manuscript as a mysterious antique book to sell at a high price, this theory is debunked by the lecturer's revelation that both vellum pages and ink used in creating it are at least 400 years old. This fact renders it impossible for Voynich to have acquired such ancient materials and produced a counterfeit document.

In summary, each theory presented in the reading passage is effectively challenged by evidence provided in the lecture. The true origin of the enigmatic Voynich manuscript remains an unsolved mystery. (272 words)

In the lecture, the speaker presents several counterarguments (clarified "author" to "speaker" to avoid confusion) to the theories regarding the origin of the Voynich manuscript as proposed in the reading passage. The professor effectively challenges each theory with compelling evidence.

Firstly, the reading passage suggests that Anthony Ascham, a sixteenth-century physician and botanist, could be the author gives out several statements of the Voynich manuscript due to similarities between its plant illustrations and those in Ascham's book, A Little Herbal. The passage discusses the enigmatic "Voynich manuscript," a beautifully illustrated handwritten book, and presents several theories regarding its origin. However, the lecturer refutes each of these theories with specific counterarguments.

Firstly, the passage suggests that the manuscript is a genuine work on a scientific or magical subject, composed in a complex secret code. The lecturer challenges this idea by pointing out that Anthony Ascham's books were mainly based on ideas from well-known sources. Therefore, it seems unlikely that Ascham had the ability to create such a complex code.

Moreover, the passage posits that the manuscript is actually a fake with no real meaning. The lecturer disputes this claim, stating that people in the sixteenth century were easily fooled and it was unnecessary to create such an intricate code. If deception was the goal, a simpler code would have sufficed.

Lastly, the passage asserts that Wilfrid M. Voynich himself created the manuscript as a modern fake to receive an attractive offer. The lecturer refutes this notion by explaining that both the ink and vellum of the manuscript can be dated back 400 years using modern methods. If Voynich intended to create a forgery, he would not have used materials significantly older than necessary.

Ultimately, the lecturer effectively challenges each of the theories presented in the passage by providing alternative explanations and evidence. (224 words)

6.Revised Essay

The reading passage presents three theories regarding the authorship of the Voynich manuscript. However, the lecturer disputes each of these theories, asserting that none of the individuals mentioned are likely to be the manuscript's author.

The first theory in the reading passage suggests that Anthony Ascham could be the author due to similarities between plant illustrations in his book, A Little Herbal, and those in the Voynich manuscript. Contrarily, the lecturer argues that Ascham was an ordinary scientist who did not possess any groundbreaking ideas. As such, it is improbable that he would create a complex coded manuscript like the Voynich manuscript.

Regarding the second theory presented in the reading passage about Edward Kelly being the creator of the manuscript, it posits that Kelly fabricated it as a fake magical book to deceive wealthy nobles for financial gain. The lecturer contends that while Kelly was known for deceiving people, creating such an intricate manuscript would have been unnecessary since simpler forgeries would have sufficed during his time. Therefore, it is unlikely that Kelly is responsible for producing this elaborate work.

As for the third theory proposed by the reading passage which suggests Wilfrid M. Voynich himself created a modern forgery of an ancient manuscript to sell as a mysterious old book, this too is challenged by the lecturer. The speaker points out that both vellum and ink used in creating this document have been dated using modern methods and found to be at least 400 years old. While Voynich may have been able to acquire vellum pages from other old manuscripts, obtaining 400-year-old ink would have been nearly impossible. Consequently, it can be inferred that the Voynich manuscript existed centuries before Voynich obtained it.

Taking into account both perspectives from the reading passage and lecture, it becomes evident that none of these three theories provide a satisfactory explanation for identifying who authored or created this enigmatic manuscript. (319 words)

Both the reading and the lecture discuss the origin of the Voynich manuscript. The reading presents three possible theories to explain its origin, while the lecturer challenges each theory with counterarguments.

Firstly, the passage suggests that the manuscript might be an authentic work on medicinal plants authored by Anthony Ascham. However, the lecturer refutes this by stating that Ascham's books did not contain any significant or innovative information that would warrant being kept secret. The speaker cites Little Herbal as an example, pointing out that it was not an original idea but rather based on other sources. Consequently, the first theory is deemed unconvincing.

Secondly, the reading posits that the manuscript may be a forgery created by Edward Kelley to earn money. Contrarily, the speaker argues that it would have been unnecessary to craft such a complex manuscript to deceive people in ancient times who were less likely to scrutinize details. Specifically, if Kelley intended to extract money from nobles using a fake manuscript, he would not have needed to invest so much effort into its creation.

Lastly, the passage proposes that the manuscript could be a modern forgery crafted by Wilfrid M. Voynich after receiving an attractive offer. In opposition, the lecturer questions this possibility by asserting that both the pages and ink of the Voynich manuscript have been dated to at least 400 years ago using modern methods. Furthermore, it would have been implausible for Voynich to use ancient materials in creating a forgery since obtaining such materials would have been extremely difficult. The lecturer disputes the three potential owners of the Voynich manuscript mentioned in the reading passage, by providing more convincing explanations and counterarguments. Firstly, contrary to the assertion that the manuscript came from a genius and it needed a fantastic code to protect its powerful and important contents from being discovered, the lecturer disagrees with this notion by stating that according to the biography of Anthony Ascham, who is an average botanist, most of his books recorded knowledge regarding common plants and referred to well-known publishments. Thus, he didn't need to use code to hide these recordings. Moving to the second point, the lecturer refutes the assumption that this manuscript was created by Edward Kelley to fool people by positing that there were countless simple means to deceive people in the sixteenth-century, so he didn't need to invest such huge efforts and time and money to achieve this tricky goal. Furthermore, the reading passage claims that it is a modern fake produced by Voynich who is familiar with old books and has the capability to make a fake one. While, the lecture challenges these arguments by providing a more nuanced perspective that based on scientific discoveries, the ink and pages used in this book come from 400 years ago before Voynich's era. And it is impossible for him to obtain a bottle of ink far before his age to create a fake book.

6.文章修订

The lecturer disputes the three potential authors of the Voynich manuscript mentioned in the reading passage, providing compelling counterarguments and explanations.

Firstly, the lecturer challenges the theory that the manuscript was written by a genius using a secret code to protect its valuable contents. He argues that Anthony Ascham, an ordinary botanist whose works mainly focused on common plants and were based on well-known sources, would not have needed to employ such a complex code to conceal his findings. This contradicts the assertion that Ascham could be the author of this enigmatic manuscript.

Regarding the second theory, which suggests Edward Kelley created the manuscript as a hoax, the lecturer counters this argument by stating that during the sixteenth century, there were numerous simpler ways to deceive people. Consequently, it would have been unnecessary for Kelley to invest significant time and effort into crafting such an intricate fake when a less elaborate book would have sufficed for his deceptive purposes.

Lastly, the reading passage posits that Wilfrid M. Voynich himself may have fabricated the manuscript as a modern forgery. However, the lecturer refutes this claim by presenting evidence from scientific analysis which demonstrates that both the ink and vellum used in the manuscript are at least 400 years old, predating Voynich's time. This fact makes it highly improbable for Voynich to have created this enigmatic book since obtaining such ancient ink would have been virtually impossible.

By addressing each theory presented in the reading passage and offering persuasive counterarguments based on historical context and scientific evidence, the lecturer effectively casts doubt on all three proposed explanations for the origin of the mysterious Voynich manuscript. (274 words)

Firstly, the reading passage suggests that Anthony Ascham might be the author of the manuscript due to similarities between plant illustrations found in both his book and the manuscript. However, the lecturer contends that Ascham was an ordinary botanist whose work contained basic and general information, making it unlikely for him to write a manuscript employing a highly specialized code.

Secondly, the reading passage posits that Edward Kelley could have created this manuscript as a fake magical book to deceive wealthy nobles. In contrast, the lecturer explains that people in ancient times were easily fooled; thus, if Kelley's intention was merely to create counterfeit books, there would be no need for him to develop such an intricate code—a much simpler version would suffice.

Lastly, the author proposes that Wilfrid M. Voynich himself created a modern fake as an antique book dealer with knowledge of how to forge old manuscripts. The lecturer disputes this claim by highlighting that examinations of both vellum and ink used in the book date back 400 years. Even if Voynich were able to acquire vellum from that era, obtaining ink of similar age would be virtually impossible. (230 words)

6.文章修订

The reading passage presents three potential authors for the Voynich manuscript, but the lecture refutes each of these proposals, deeming them highly unlikely.

Firstly, the reading passage suggests that Anthony Ascham could be the author of the manuscript due to similarities between plant illustrations in his book, A Little Herbal, and those in the Voynich manuscript. However, the professor disputes this idea, arguing that the creator of the Voynich manuscript must have been conveying crucial or powerful information that warranted a coded message. Ascham was an ordinary physician and botanist whose book A Little Herbal was based on other well-known sources. Given what is known about Ascham's background and his work, it seems improbable that he authored such an intricately coded document.

Secondly, the reading passage proposes Edward Kelley as a potential author of the manuscript since he was notorious for deceiving people and may have fabricated the manuscript to swindle wealthy nobles in the 16th century. Contrarily, the professor contends that although Kelley was skilled at trickery, it is evident that whoever created this manuscript invested significant care into its construction. Considering how easily people were fooled during this time period, there would have been no need for Kelley to exert such effort in forging a complex manuscript when a simpler one could have achieved his objective just as effectively.

Lastly, Wilfrid M. Voynich himself is proposed as a possible author by the reading passage due to his expertise as an antique book dealer and his capability to fabricate such a document. In opposition to this theory, the professor asserts that modern technology has allowed scientists to determine both ink and paper used in creating this manuscript date back at least 400 years ago. While it is conceivable that Voynich could have obtained vellum pages from other books originating from that time period, acquiring ink from four centuries ago would be virtually impossible. This evidence suggests that the Voynich manuscript was created long before Voynich himself obtained it.

Taking into account the evidence provided by the professor, it becomes apparent that none of the three individuals mentioned in the reading passage are plausible candidates for authorship of the Voynich manuscript. (362 words)

The reading passage listed presents three people and proposes potential authors for the Voynich manuscript, but the lecture refutes each of these proposals, deeming them to be the candidates of the author of the Voynich manuscript. However, the lecture contradicts the proposal, and regarding highly unlikely. (Changed "regarding it hardly true. true" to "deeming them highly unlikely" for clarity and natural tone.)

Firstly, the reading passage suggests that Anthony Ascham could be the author of the manuscript, because the manuscript due to similarities between plant illustrations on in his book, A Little Herbal, are very resemble to the medical plants on the and those in the Voynich manuscript. Nevertheless, However, the professor disputes the this idea, because whoever created that arguing that the creator of the Voynich manuscript must be have been conveying crucial or powerful information that warranted a coded message. Hence, Given what is known about Ascham's background and his work, it seems improbable that he cannot be the author of the manuscript. authored such an intricately coded document.

Secondly, the reading passage proposes Edward Kelley to be the as a potential author of the manuscript, because manuscript since he was well-known for his ability to trick notorious for deceiving people and may make up the manuscript to fool the have fabricated the manuscript to swindle wealthy noble nobles in the 16th century in order to extract money. Considering how easily people were fooled during this time period, there was would have been no need for Edward Kelley to put so much exert such effort in faking a manuscript rather than creating a simple forging a complex manuscript when a simpler one that also could extract money from the nobles. have achieved his objective just as effectively.

Eventually, Lastly, Wilfrid M. Voynich himself is proposed as a possible author by the reading passage put forward Wilfrid M. Voynich himself to be the author, because he is due to his expertise as an antique book dealer himself that he is completely capable of faking the manuscript. and his capability to fabricate such a document. In contrast, opposition to this theory, the professor refutes the proposal, because owing to the asserts that modern technology, technology has allowed scientists are able to identify to determine both ink and paper used in creating this manuscript date back at least 400 years ago. (Changed "identify the exact time where the manuscript from. It turns out that from" to "determine both the ink and the paper were from four hundreds of used in creating this manuscript date back at least 400 years ago. This evidence suggests that the Voynich manuscript was created long before Voynich himself obtained it.

Taking into account the evidence provided by the professor, it clear that Wilfrid M. Voynich himself is not the author the manuscript but one from centuries ago. ¶ Considering all the evidence stated by the professor, what renders clearly is becomes apparent that none of those the three person individuals mentioned in the reading passage are possible for the author plausible candidates for authorship of the manuscript.Voynich manuscript. The lecture primarily disputes the advantages of a four-day workweek as opposed to a traditional five-day workweek, contrasting with the assertions made in the reading passage. Firstly, the professor challenges the reading's claim that a four-day workweek would increase company profits. Contrary to this assertion, the lecturer contends that implementing such a schedule would necessitate hiring additional staff, thereby increasing expenses on training and health insurance for new employees. Furthermore, accommodating these new hires would require more office space and equipment, such as computers. Consequently, these added costs would offset any potential profit gains. In addition, the lecture refutes the reading's idea that employees working a four-day week would enjoy more free time and an improved quality of life. The professor highlights potential issues such as increased work pressure due to companies expecting their employees to complete the same amount of work in fewer days. This heightened workload could ultimately lead to a decline in overall quality of life for those employees who opt for a shorter workweek. Lastly, while the reading suggests that a four-day workweek could enhance an employee's personal life, the lecture presents opposing arguments. The professor notes that reduced working hours might negatively impact employees' job stability and career advancement opportunities. In times of economic downturns, those working fewer days are more likely to face job loss due to their perceived lower commitment levels. Moreover, companies may prefer promoting full-time employees into management positions to ensure continuous coverage and consistent supervision throughout the entire workweek. As a result, individuals who choose a four-day workweek may encounter challenges in achieving long-term career success and maintaining job security. Overall, the lecture casts doubt on several key points made in the reading passage regarding potential benefits of adopting a four-day workweek for companies and their employees.

The lecture primarily disputes the advantages of a four-day workweek in comparison to a traditional five-day workweek, presenting a stark contrast to the assertions made in the reading passage.

Initially, the professor challenges the reading's claim that a four-day workweek would bolster company profits. In opposition to this assertion, the lecturer contends that implementing such a schedule would necessitate hiring additional staff, thereby augmenting expenses on training and health insurance for new employees. Furthermore, accommodating these new hires would demand more office space and equipment, such as computers. Moreover, the lecture refutes the reading's notion that employees working a four-day week would relish more free time and an enhanced quality of life. The professor highlights potential drawbacks such as increased work pressure due to companies expecting their employees to complete an equivalent amount of work in fewer days. This heightened workload could ultimately lead to stress and burnout, resulting in a decline in overall quality of life for those employees who opt for a shorter workweek.

Lastly, while the reading suggests that a four-day workweek could enrich an employee's personal life, the lecture presents opposing arguments. The professor notes that reduced working hours might adversely impact employees' job stability and career advancement opportunities. In times of economic downturns, those working fewer days are more likely to face job loss due to their perceived lower commitment levels, as employers may view them as less dedicated and less valuable than full-time employees. Moreover, companies may prefer promoting full-time employees into management positions to ensure continuous coverage and consistent supervision throughout the entire workweek. As a result, individuals who choose a four-day workweek may encounter challenges in achieving long-term career success and maintaining job security.

In summary, by presenting compelling counterarguments against key points made in the reading passage regarding potential benefits of adopting a four-day workweek, the lecture casts doubt on the overall effectiveness of such a policy for both companies and their employees. (338 words)

The Voynich manuscript, written in an enigmatic script, has remained undeciphered to this day. The reading passage posits three theories regarding the origin of the Voynich manuscript. However, the lecturer disputes these theories.

Firstly, the reading passage proposes that Anthony Ascham may have authored the manuscript, as evidenced by similarities with his book, A Little Herbal. Contrarily, the lecturer argues that Ascham was merely a physician and scientist who produced books with no original ideas; thus, he would not possess the knowledge required to encode such a document. Furthermore, A Little Herbal merely describes common plants based on well-known sources. Consequently, it is unlikely that Ascham authored the manuscript.

Secondly, the reading passage suggests that Edward Kelley fabricated the manuscript as a fake to sell to wealthy individuals for profit. Nevertheless, the lecturer refutes this notion by asserting that while Kelley was indeed skilled at deceiving affluent people for monetary gain, it was relatively easy to fool individuals during that era. Therefore, Kelley would not have needed to expend considerable effort creating such an intricate manuscript; instead, he could have chosen simpler works to forge for financial gain.

Lastly, the reading passage posits that Wilfrid M. Voynich himself created the manuscript due to his knowledge of antique manuscripts and potential financial incentives from selling it as a mysterious old book. However, the lecturer disproves this theory by explaining that modern methods can now accurately date both ink and other materials used in manuscripts. The Voynich manuscript has been determined to be centuries older than when Voynich acquired it since it was created using 400-year-old ink – an item Voynich could not have possibly obtained.

Overall, each theory presented in the reading passage is effectively challenged by points made in the lecture regarding their plausibility concerning the true origin of the enigmatic Voynich manuscript. (306 words)

Section Title: 6.文章修订

The passage presents three theories attempting to explain the origin of the mysterious Voynich manuscript, which is written in an unknown script that has yet to be decoded. However, the lecture challenges each of these theories with compelling evidence.

Firstly, the passage suggests that Anthony Ascham, a sixteenth-century physician and botanist, could be the author of the manuscript due to similarities between plant illustrations in both his book and the Voynich manuscript. The lecturer disputes this claim by stating that Ascham focused on common plants and did not possess any groundbreaking knowledge. Therefore, it seems unlikely that he would create such an intricately coded document.

Secondly, the passage proposes that Edward Kelley may have fabricated the manuscript as a fake magical book to sell to wealthy nobles by using a made-up alphabet in random order. The lecturer refutes this theory by arguing that people in the sixteenth century were easily deceived; thus, there would be no need for Kelley to create such an elaborate fake when a simpler one would have sufficed.

Lastly, the passage posits that Wilfrid M. Voynich himself might have forged the manuscript as a modern fake with intentions of selling it if presented with an attractive offer. The lecturer counters this notion by explaining that both the vellum pages and ink used in the manuscript have been dated back at least 400 years through modern methods. This evidence disproves Voynich's involvement since he could not have obtained ink from four centuries prior.

In light of these points raised by the lecturer, all three theories presented in the passage are effectively challenged and cast into doubt regarding their validity in explaining the true origin of the enigmatic Voynich manuscript. (285 words)

The reading passage brings up there three theories about the origin of Voynich manuscript. Correspondingly, the speaker in the listening proposes solutions respectively to these theories. The first theory mentioned in the reading is that the manuscript is a genuine work on some scientific or magical knowledge composed by secret code. Some kinds of illustrations seem similar to a medicinal book published by Anthony Ascham in 1550. Regarding to this theory, the speaker points out that it is unconvincing because Anthony was an ordinary scientist whose book contained no original ideas. Overall, Anthony was unlikely to be the author. The second theory in the reading passage is that the manuscript is totally a fake and meaningless book created by Edward Kelley. Kelly was familiar to produce made-up books and sold them to the nobles at a high price. As for this issue, the speaker raises that it is uneconomic for Kelly to do so. Because the nobles at that time were easy to fool, Kelly didn’t need to make so much work to make an elaborate book. The third theory listed in the reading is this manuscript was made by Voynich himself because he was a book dealer who had enough knowledge to finish the work. However, the speaker believes that even though Voynich had the technique, he had no chance to get the materials to make the manuscript. As the manuscript is proved that came from 400 years ago, the materials like vellum pages and ink also have to be 400 years old. Though Voynich may get 400 years old vellum from other manuscripts, he had no chance to get ink as old as the vellum. Therefore, Voynich can not be the author.

The reading passage presents three theories regarding the origin of the Voynich manuscript, while the speaker in the listening section challenges each theory with corresponding counterarguments.

Firstly, the reading suggests that the manuscript is a genuine work on scientific or magical knowledge, composed in a secret code. It speculates that Anthony Ascham, a sixteenth-century physician and botanist, could be its author due to similarities between plant illustrations in the Voynich manuscript and those in Ascham's book, A Little Herbal. However, the speaker contends that this theory is unconvincing because Ascham was an ordinary scientist whose works contained no original ideas. Thus, it seems improbable that he authored such an elaborately coded document.

Secondly, the reading posits that Edward Kelley created the manuscript as a fake and meaningless book to sell to wealthy nobles. Kelley was known for deceiving people by pretending to have magical powers and producing made-up books for profit. Contrarily, the speaker argues that it would be unnecessary and inefficient for Kelley to create such a complex manuscript since people in the sixteenth century were easily fooled. A simpler book would have sufficed for his purposes.

Lastly, according to the reading passage, Wilfrid M. Voynich himself may have fabricated the manuscript as he was an antique book dealer with sufficient knowledge of what old manuscripts should resemble. The speaker refutes this theory by highlighting that although Voynich might have obtained 400-year-old vellum from other sources, acquiring ink of the same age would have been nearly impossible. Consequently, this evidence indicates that Voynich could not be the author of this mysterious manuscript.

The origin of the 52-hertz whale has been heatedly discussed for a long period. Scientists have proposed several theories to explain it, yet accroding to the lecturer's opinion, these theories are all flawed and cannot fully illustrate where this unique animal comes from. Firstly, the passage mentioned that this whale can be a hybrid of two different species. However, the lecturer pointed out that, unlike other hybrid whales who usually travel along the route of their unhybrid relatives, this 52-hertz whale never migrate along with other whales. Instead, it owns a solitude travelling path. This behavior does not correspond to the theory of hybrid wahles and thus repudiated the thoery. Secondly, a damage to the hearing function of the whale can also explain the different pitch it produces. The lecturer argued, nevertheless, that the significant shift in pitch must have demonstrated an alteration in the physical structure of this whale's throat. In that case, a hearing problem will not be able to account for the pitch shift because hearing damage will not cause throat changes. Thirdly, the possibility that the whale belongs to a rare species was also denied by the lecturer. He stated that under decades searching of modern underwater recording devices, no other 52-herzt whale song has ever been recorded, and should the whale belong to a rare species, its parents would have produced the same songs.

3.Task completeness

The essay does not adequately address the specific requirements of the task. The content of the essay is not related to the reading passage and listening passage provided. Instead, it discusses a completely different topic, which is the origin of the 52-hertz whale. To improve task fulfillment, make sure to accurately summarize the points made in the lecture and explain how they challenge the specific theories presented in the reading passage.

Example 1: Incorrect: The origin of the 52-hertz whale has been heatedly discussed for a long period. Correct: The lecturer challenges each of the three theories presented in the reading passage about the origin of the Voynich manuscript.

Example 2: Incorrect: Firstly, the passage mentioned that this whale can be a hybrid of two different species. Correct: Firstly, according to the lecturer, Anthony Ascham is an unlikely author for such an elaborately coded document as he was just an ordinary physician and scientist with no original ideas.

4.Essay structure and organization

The essay structure needs improvement as it does not follow a clear introduction-body-conclusion format related to addressing specific theories from both passages. To improve organization, make sure each paragraph focuses on one theory from both passages and explains how they are challenged by or support each other.

Example 1: Incorrect: The origin of the 52-hertz whale has been heatedly discussed for a long period. Correct: In this essay, I will summarize points made in a lecture that challenge three theories about who created Voynich manuscript presented in a reading passage.

Example 2: Incorrect: Secondly, a damage to hearing function can also explain different pitch it produces. Correct: Secondly, although Edward Kelley was known for tricking people, the lecturer argues that creating such a complex manuscript like Voynich would be unnecessary for his purposes, as people in the sixteenth century were quite easy to fool.

Section Title: 6. Revised Essay

The origin of the Voynich manuscript has long been a subject of debate, with various theories proposed to explain its mysterious nature. However, the lecturer challenges these theories, providing alternative explanations that cast doubt on their validity.

Firstly, the reading passage suggests that Anthony Ascham, a sixteenth-century physician and botanist, could be the author of the manuscript due to similarities between plant illustrations in his book and those in the Voynich manuscript. The lecturer refutes this theory by arguing that Ascham was an ordinary scientist whose works did not contain any original ideas and were based on well-known sources. Thus, it seems unlikely that he would have authored such an elaborately coded and secretive document.

Secondly, the passage posits that Edward Kelley, a sixteenth-century trickster who pretended to have magical powers, may have created the manuscript as a fake magical book to sell to wealthy nobles. The lecturer counters this theory by stating that although Kelley was skilled at deceiving people, it would not have been necessary for him to create such a complex fake document. People in the sixteenth century were easily fooled; therefore, Kelley could have achieved his goal with a much simpler book.

Lastly, the reading passage proposes that Wilfrid M. Voynich himself could have fabricated the manuscript as a modern fake. The lecturer disputes this theory by explaining that modern methods have been used to date both the vellum pages and ink of the manuscript – both of which are at least 400 years old. This fact rules out Voynich as its creator since he would not have had access to 400-year-old ink.

In light of these points made by the lecturer, it becomes evident that none of the theories presented in the reading passage can satisfactorily explain the origin of the enigmatic Voynich manuscript. (304 words)

Revised essay: The origin of the 52-hertz whale has been heatedly discussed fervently debated for a long period. Scientists quite some time. Although scientists have proposed several theories to explain it, yet accroding to the lecturer's opinion, its existence, the lecturer contends that these theories are all flawed and cannot fully illustrate where account for the origins of this unique animal comes from. animal.

The reading passage discusses the possible originality of “Voynich manuscript”, a illustrated handwritten book that seems like be written in fifteenth or sixteenth centuries, and three seemingly plausible theories are offered in the reading passage. However, the professor holds that three theories are all unbelievable and casts doubt on the reading passage for the following reasons. First, the reading passage mentions that one theory is that the manuscript was genuinely written by Anthony Ascham, a physician and botanist in sixteenth century, in a complex secret code because the illustrations on his books, called A little Herbal, are similar with those on “Voynich manuscript”. Nonetheless, the professor holds that the information on the “Voynich manuscript” does not fit with know about Anthony Ascham, and an example based on the common patten and unknown sources are provided in support of this argument. Second, the reading passage mentions that another theory is that the manuscript was written by Edward Kelly, a person cricks on nobles frequently, that creates a code with randomly ordered alphabet on the manuscript. Nevertheless, the professor claims that people in sixteenth century are silly, so it is not essential to create a fake in order to make scams on them. Therefore, the supports in this theory are not reasonable due to the unnecessity of efforts of creating fake code. Third, the reading passage suggests that the other theory is that the manuscript was created by Wilfrid M. Voynich, a modern antique book dealer, with his knowledge of old manuscripts. However, the professor asserts that the ink on the manuscript was made four hundred years ago and it is difficult for Wilfrid M. Voynich to get this ancient ink.

Section Title: 6.文章修订

The reading passage discusses the mysterious origins of the "Voynich manuscript," an illustrated handwritten book that appears to be from the fifteenth or sixteenth centuries, and presents three seemingly plausible theories. However, the professor contends that all three theories are implausible and challenges the claims made in the reading passage.

Firstly, the reading passage suggests that one theory is that the manuscript was genuinely written by Anthony Ascham, a sixteenth-century physician and botanist, in a complex secret code because illustrations in his book, A Little Herbal, are similar to those in the "Voynich manuscript." Nevertheless, the professor argues that this information does not align with what is known about Anthony Ascham. He provides an example based on common patterns and unknown sources to support this argument.

Secondly, the reading passage proposes another theory stating that Edward Kelley, a notorious trickster who frequently deceived nobles, created a code with randomly ordered alphabets for the manuscript. However, the professor claims that people in the sixteenth century were easily fooled; thus, it would not have been necessary for Kelley to create such an elaborate fake to deceive them. Consequently, this theory's supporting evidence is deemed unreasonable due to the unnecessary effort required to create a fake code.

Lastly, according to the reading passage's third theory, Wilfrid M. Voynich—a modern antique book dealer—created the manuscript using his knowledge of old manuscripts. Contrarily, the professor asserts that since both vellum pages and ink used in creating this manuscript are at least 400 years old; it would have been difficult for Voynich to obtain such ancient ink.

In conclusion, although three theories attempt to explain the origin of "Voynich Manuscript," none of them hold up under scrutiny as presented by lecture points. The true origin of this enigmatic work remains shrouded in mystery. (300 words)
