Your IELTS exam has four parts:

- Writing
- Speaking
Each section is graded on a scale from 1 to 9 bands. Your overall IELTS band score is simply the average of these four scores, rounded to the nearest whole or half band.
IELTS Band Score Rounding Rules
Here’s how rounding works:
- If your average ends in .25, it rounds up to the next half band.
- If your average ends in .75, it rounds up to the next whole band.
- Anything else rounds to the nearest 0.5 or whole.
Example 1:
- Listening: 6.5
- Reading: 7.0
- Writing: 6.0
- Speaking: 6.0
Average = 6.375 → Rounded to 6.5 overall band score.
Example 2:
- Listening: 7.0
- Reading: 8.0
