Professor
This week we covered different parenting styles. One idea we discussed was how much independence and freedom we should give our children, especially young children. Onerelated issue is whether there should be an aglimit on when children can have mobile phones. In this discussion post, I would like you to discuss whether you agree or disagree with the idea of setting a minimum age for when children can have a mobile phone. Explain your opinion.
Andrew
I totally agree with the idea of not giving children phones before they reach a certain age. let's say ten years old or so. I believe children younger than ten are not yet ready to deal with the world that comes with mobile phones. as it can put them in harm's way.
Claire
Honestly, I am against the idea of restricting mobile phone access for young children. believe mobile phones can help children communicate with their parents if they need their help for an urgent matter when they are away from their parents at school or elsewhere. Maybe companies can invent a special kind of mobile phone that is somehow kid friendly.

I strongly agree with Claire’s idea that we should not limit mobile phone for young children. This is because, as Claire points out, children have to communicate with their parents sometimes, especially when they need help. Besides, mobile phone also can help children socialize with each other. Children could talk about the cartoons they watched and share their feelings on social media, which is benefit for them to make friends and get relaxed. Andrew mentions that young children can not deal with the world that comes with a phone, and I have to say that I am not convinced. On the contrary, children should be armed with the ability, courage and knowledge that they gain from using mobile phone. It is about making sure children have what can not be missed. For example, children can access hundreds or even thousands of online books with a mobile phone conveniently, they can see these books in a very quick time for upcoming tests, they also can enjoy reading these books due to their interest.

I concur with Claire's perspective that we should not impose restrictions on mobile phone usage for young children. As she astutely points out, there are instances when children need to communicate with their parents, particularly in emergency situations. Furthermore, mobile phones can facilitate socialization among children by enabling them to discuss shared interests, such as cartoons, and express their thoughts on social media platforms. This interaction is beneficial for forging friendships and promoting relaxation.
While Andrew contends that young children are ill-equipped to navigate the world that accompanies mobile phone usage, I find his argument unconvincing. Rather than shielding them from potential challenges, we should empower children with the skills, confidence, and knowledge they can acquire through responsible phone use. Mobile phones provide access to a wealth of resources that should not be overlooked. For instance, children can readily access a vast array of online books via their phones—allowing them to prepare for upcoming exams or indulge in leisure reading based on personal interests.
