In recent years, there has been ongoing debate regarding the relevance and necessity of public libraries. Some argue that in the digital age, where information is readily available online, libraries may have lost their significance. What are your thoughts on the importance of libraries today? Do you believe cities should continue to maintain public libraries?
Claire
Libraries were relevant when books were the main source of knowledge and people couldn't afford personal libraries. But in our digital world, public funding for libraries is an unnecessary expenditure. With so much information online, who needs physical books? Very few people read anymore. I haven't stepped foot in a library for years.
Paul
Public libraries are still valuable community resources. While digital information is widespread, libraries offer engaging programs that inspire kids' love of reading. From story times to summer reading clubs, these activities get children excited about books in a way websites can't match. Libraries nurture the next generation of readers - we shouldn't abandon them yet.

In this epoch, reading online is more convenient for people, including using electronic dictionary to look up words any time anywhere, and interacting with information in vivid ways. All the learning process could begin and run smoothly at home instead of going to far away libraries and looking for relevant books according to alphabet ranking. The public libraries are not convenient as e-books. With the Internet development, people simply enter some vocabularies, click the mouse and press several buttons, all information would present on your screen. In contrary, finding physical books is a more complex process. People cannot examine if the book, paper, or magazine is really fit to their research needs. Also, some of the records may hard to gain, because the paper versions are easy to be contaminated and destroyed than digital version. Moreover, digital records can provide variety versions of a book with cheaper price. With all reasons above, I strongly agree with Claire that people are less likely to go to the center library for researching, so cities should not continue to maintain public libraries.

Section Title: The Relevance of Public Libraries in the Digital Age
In today's rapidly evolving technological landscape, individuals increasingly rely on digital resources to enhance their lives, often leading to more convenience and efficiency. This shift towards digitalization supports Claire's argument that fewer people utilize physical resources, rendering public libraries an unnecessary expenditure. Indeed, online reading offers numerous advantages, such as easy access to electronic dictionaries and interactive content that can be enjoyed from the comfort of one's home. This eliminates the need to travel to distant libraries and tediously search for relevant books using traditional organizational systems.
Furthermore, the internet has streamlined information retrieval; with a few keystrokes and clicks, users can access a wealth of knowledge on their screens. In contrast, locating physical books can be a more cumbersome process, with no guarantee that the chosen material will suit one's research needs. Additionally, physical copies are more susceptible to damage and contamination than their digital counterparts. The digital realm also offers multiple versions of a text at lower costs.
Taking these factors into consideration, I concur with Claire's assertion that individuals are less inclined to visit central libraries for research purposes. Consequently, cities should reevaluate the necessity of maintaining public libraries in this digital age. (207 words)
