Task Overview
Reading Passage
Population Changes Populations of living beings are constantly changing. The number of humans, animals, insects, or plants living in a given area can vary because of two kinds of factors: biotic and abiotic. Biotic factors are living factors that can influence the size of populations, such as predators or other species competing for food. Abiotic factors are nonliving things in the surrounding environment that can cause population changes, such as weather or sunlight. Biotic and abiotic factors cause continual changes in the number of individuals that make up a population of organisms.

4.话题发展 从话题发展的角度来看,这位同学的回答基本上是连贯和有条理的。然而,在描述生物因素和非生物因素时,可以尝试更清晰地区分这两类因素,并给出更具体的例子。例如,在描述生物因素时,可以强调猫头鹰和老鼠之间的捕食关系;在描述非生物因素时,可以强调气候对兔子繁殖周期的影响。总之,通过提供更详细的解释和例证,可以使回答更加丰富和有说服力。
5.语言使用Original Answer: There are two types of changes that will change the population. There are two types of factors that affect population changes. (将“changes”改为“factors”,使句子更准确) The first is biotic changes. The first type is biotic factors. (将“changes”改为“factors”,使句子更准确) It is living things that influence the population. And the second is abiotic changes. The second type is abiotic factors, which are nonliving things such as water, sunlight, and temperature that influence the population. (添加了非生物因素的具体描述,使句子更清晰) So the first example of biotic factors is mice and owls. Owls eat mice. And one year, the owl population has more owls. So the mice population decreases, which is a factor of biotic change. And the second is abiotic change, which rabbits mostly reproduce before the winter and after the winter. And they reproduce until the next winter. So one year, the winter is very short, which makes the rabbits reproduce more earlier, which gives at least another reproductive cycle. So it increases the population of rabbits.
Revised Answer (140 words): There are two types of factors that affect population changes. The first type is biotic factors, which involve living organisms influencing the population size. For example, in a predator-prey relationship, the population of mice is affected by the number of owls, their predators. When the owl population increases, the mice population decreases due to increased predation. The second type is abiotic factors, which are nonliving environmental elements such as water, sunlight, and temperature that influence the population. In the case of rabbits, their reproduction is affected by seasonal changes. A shorter winter allows rabbits to start reproducing earlier, leading to an additional reproductive cycle and a significant increase in the rabbit population. These examples demonstrate how both biotic and abiotic factors play a crucial role in determining population changes in living organisms.

5.语言使用Original Answer: So there are two factors that may cause population changes in an area. One is biotic and another one is abiotic. Biotic factors always concern size in an area. For example, the professor talks about mice and owls in the same area. Say, the owls eat more in one year. And because the owls eat the mice, so there will be fewer mice in the area this year. And another factor is abiotic factor, which is always about weather and sunlight. So the professor gives an example of rabbits, who will be reproductive after the cold winter. And say, this year the winter is shorter, then there will be one more reproduction.
Corrected Answer: So there are two factors that may cause population changes in an area: One biotic and another one abiotic. Biotic factors always concern size in an area influence population size(原文中的表述不够准确,应该是“影响种群数量”). For example, the professor talks about mice and owls in the same area. Say, If(用“如果”更符合自然语言) the owls eat more in one year, And because then(用“那么”更符合自然语言) the owls eat the mice, so there will be fewer mice in the area this year. The another factor is other factor, abiotic, which is always about involves(用“涉及”更符合自然语言) weather and sunlight. The professor gives an example of rabbits, who will be reproductive which reproduce(用“繁殖”更符合自然语言) after the cold winter. And say, If(用“如果”更符合自然语言) this year the winter is shorter, then there will be one more reproduction.
Revised Answer (140 words): There are two factors that can cause population changes in an area: biotic and abiotic factors. Biotic factors influence population size, as demonstrated by the example of mice and owls living in the same area. If the number of owls increases and they consume more mice, the mouse population will decrease. On the other hand, abiotic factors involve environmental conditions such as weather and sunlight. The professor used rabbits as an example to illustrate this point. Rabbits typically reproduce after the cold winter season. If the winter season is shorter than usual, rabbits will have an additional reproductive cycle, leading to a significant increase in their population. By understanding these two factors, we can better comprehend how biotic and abiotic factors contribute to population changes in various ecosystems.

Delivery The speaker's delivery is generally clear and fluid, with a consistent pace and only occasional pauses. However, there are some minor pronunciation issues, such as "ores" instead of "owls." To improve, the speaker should practice pronouncing words correctly and focus on maintaining a natural rhythm in their speech.
-
Topic Development The speaker provides a coherent and well-organized response, with clear connections between ideas and sufficient support or examples from the lecture. However, there is room for improvement in the clarity of the examples provided. To enhance topic development, the speaker should focus on providing more specific details from the lecture and ensure that all terms are used accurately (e.g., using "owls" instead of "ores").
Original Answer: A group of mice and ores live together. A group of mice and owls live together. ("ores" should be "owls" for accurate vocabulary)
Ores eat mice, and the number of mice is dependent on the number of ores. Owls eat mice, and the number of mice depends on the number of owls. (Replace "ores" with "owls" and use "depends" instead of "is dependent" for a more natural flow)
For example, in a particular year, there are more ores. For instance, in a specific year, there are more owls. (Replace "ores" with "owls" and use "specific" instead of "particular" for better vocabulary)
As a result, they will eat more mice. The number of mice will see a substantial decline. Consequently, they will consume more mice, leading to a significant decrease in the mouse population. (Use advanced vocabulary and smoother transitions)
The second factor is abiotic factors. The second type is abiotic factors. (Use "type" instead of "factor" for clarity)
Rabbits have their young when the cold winter is gone. Rabbits give birth after the cold winter has passed. (Use "give birth" instead of "have their young" for a more natural-sounding language)
They keep reproducing young until the next spring. They continue reproducing offspring until the following spring. (Use "offspring" instead of "young" for better vocabulary)
Revised Answer (140 words):
A group of mice and owls live together. Owls eat mice, and the number of mice depends on the number of owls. For instance, in a specific year, there are more owls. Consequently, they will consume more mice, leading to a significant decrease in the mouse population. The second type is abiotic factors. Rabbits give birth after the cold winter has passed. They continue reproducing offspring until the following spring. For example, in a particular year, the winter season is really short, and it gets warmer earlier than before. So the rabbits will have one extra reproduction cycle, which means they reproduce their babies earlier. This results in an increase in the rabbit population due to the additional reproductive cycle enabled by the shorter winter season.
