When it comes to the ways of shopping, there are non- other than those two approaches, on-line shopping or making your purchasing at physical stores. Array of people deem that on-line shopping exerts detrimental impact on the business of physical stores, rendering many local physical stores out of business and increasing unemployment rate. However, from my perspective, on-line business play crucial role in our daily life and its’ importance cannot be neglected. My argument can be justified by the following elaboration. On-line shopping cannot only save money but also save time. As for the first merit saving money, it is universally known that the price of items from digital platforms is much lower than their counterparts found in local physical stores because physical stores have to spend lots of money to cover the expenditure on store’s rentals, salary for employees and other utilities expenses, which contributes to the higher price of the items found in physical stores. However, without the expenditures I just mentioned, on-line shopping will save people a lot of money. For example, last week, I bought a MacBook Air computer on-line, I only spent 6000 RMB but the same product sold in local physical store will demand for more than 7000RMB. See, people can save lots of money by making their daily purchase on-line. Admittedly, some people may argue my point by claiming that the local physical store might go out of business as the consequence of the lower price competition of on-line shopping. However, this is not the problem of on-line shopping itself, but actually is the issue of physical stores themselves. Like I said, the physical stores could sharpen their competitive edge by proving sorts of services that on-line shopping cannot purvey. For example, a fashion physical store could organize sorts of events and activities to inviting its loyal customers to attend, inviting some fashion designers to deliver lectures to the customers about the fashion knowledges, like color matching, material selection and how to make in informed decisions based on individual’s own personality and styles when they are shopping for clothes. See, problems might be tackled easily. To wrap up my speech, in order to participate in market’s natural competition, physical shops have to crack their brains to figure out the solutions otherwise you will be easily left out by the markets.

The debate over the impact of online shopping on society has been a contentious one, with some arguing that it has a negative effect on local physical stores and employment, while others contend that it offers numerous benefits to consumers. In my opinion, online shopping plays a vital role in our daily lives and its importance should not be underestimated. The advantages of online shopping, such as cost savings and convenience, outweigh the potential drawbacks.
One of the primary benefits of online shopping is the ability to save both time and money. It is widely acknowledged that prices for items on digital platforms are often lower than those found in local physical stores. This can be attributed to the fact that physical stores incur additional expenses such as rent, employee salaries, and utility costs, which contribute to higher prices for their products. Online retailers do not have these overheads, allowing them to offer more competitive pricing. For instance, I recently purchased a MacBook Air online for 6000 RMB, whereas the same product would have cost over 7000 RMB at a local store. This example illustrates how consumers can save significantly by making their purchases online.
Critics may argue that the lower prices offered by online retailers can lead to local physical stores going out of business and increased unemployment rates. However, this issue should not be attributed solely to online shopping but rather seen as an opportunity for physical stores to adapt and innovate. To remain competitive in today's market, brick-and-mortar shops must provide unique services and experiences that cannot be replicated by online retailers. For example, a fashion store could host events or workshops featuring fashion designers who share insights on color matching, material selection, and personal style advice. By offering such value-added services, physical stores can differentiate themselves from their online counterparts.
In conclusion, while there may be challenges associated with the rise of online shopping for traditional retail establishments, it is ultimately up to these businesses to adapt and evolve in order to remain competitive. The benefits of online shopping, such as cost savings and convenience, make it an indispensable aspect of modern life. As a result, it is essential for physical stores to find innovative ways to attract and retain customers in this ever-changing retail landscape. (385 words)
