Having students collaborate in small groups for learning activities is a widely adopted teaching strategy. The age of the students is a critical factor to consider when choosing this approach. Let's explore the benefits for two age groups: young students (ages 5-11) and older students (ages 14-18). Which age group, in your opinion, would derive greater advantages from engaging in small group learning activities? Why?
Student A
I believe that young elementary school children would benefit more from participating in small group activities compared to high schoolers. Young children tend to be more enthusiastic about participation and cooperation, while teenagers can sometimes be disengaged and easily distracted in class. Forming groups for young kids can help them develop essential social skills and generate excitement about collaborative learning. High school students may prefer independent work, where they can concentrate without distractions from their peers.
Student B
In my view, older high school students would benefit more from engaging in small group work. Adolescents often display a higher degree of competitiveness and motivation to stand out, making group work an excellent opportunity for them to challenge each other intellectually. Based on my personal experiences with group projects in class, we encouraged each other to think more deeply and produce higher-quality work than we could have achieved individually.

As far as I am concerned, the older students that ages 14-18 will evidently derive more advantages from engaging in small group learining activities. This is because older students are more mature and therefore will be more open to different opinions from themselves. To be more specific, when engaging in small group learning activities, there probably exists some issues which students tend to have their views different from each other and it can be hard for them to reach an agreement. In this case, if students are not mature enough, they will not be able to understand others and therefore will just adhere to their own opinions. As a result, they will fail to complete the learning activities, which means that the efforts made to students’ collaboration in small groups are actually in vain.

Section Title: 6 Article Revision
In my opinion, older students aged 14-18 would derive greater advantages from engaging in small group learning activities. This is primarily due to their increased maturity, which enables them to be more receptive to differing opinions and perspectives. Specifically, when participating in small group activities, students may encounter issues where their views diverge from one another, making it challenging to reach a consensus. In such situations, if students lack the necessary maturity, they may struggle to understand others and stubbornly cling to their own opinions. Consequently, this could lead to an inability to complete the learning activities effectively, rendering the collaborative efforts of small groups fruitless. (111 words)
