Reading Passage
Gulf sturgeon are large fish that weigh up to 200 pounds (91 kilograms). They live in Florida rivers during the summer months, after spending the winter in the seawater in the Gulf of Mexico. In Florida, they attract a lot of attention by their habit of jumping several feet out of the water and returning with a loud splash. Three different explanations for why sturgeon jump are often proposed. Feeding Some fish species jump out of the water to catch flying insects. There are certainly plenty of insects in the subtropical air of summertime Florida. Moreover the sturgeon jump most frequently in the early morning and evening when most freshwater fish feed. For these reasons, many people believe that the sturgeon are jumping to catch food in the same way that a trout jumps from the water to catch a fly. Parasite removal All animals have parasites, and many have evolved behaviors for getting rid of them. Fish have parasites that attach to their scales, so it seems reasonable to suppose that sturgeon jump to remove parasites. Indeed, not only do the sturgeon vigorously shake themselves in the air, they almost always hit the water with great force on their sides. This way of striking the water reinforces the idea that the sturgeon are trying to shake or knock off parasites. Aggression Every year a number of tourists riding in boats are injured when they are hit by jumping sturgeon. To the tourists this does not seem accidental. After all they are invading the sturgeon’s territory, and that is a circumstance that often provokes an animal to attack. Indeed the sturgeon jumping is most intense at the height of the tourist season, which to the tourists seems to confirm that they are the object of the sturgeon’s anger. 您的回答 Guld sturgeon are a kind of large fish that live in Florida during summer months and residueing in Mexico during winter. The reading suggests three different reasons to explain why sturgeon jump out of water. However, the listening refutes all points of reading and respectively explain three counterarguments. First, according to the article, sturgeon jump more frequently in morning and evening when most freshwater fish feeds in these time. Hence, critics believes that the jumping of sturgeon is a behaviour for them to catch food. On the contrary, the lecturer holds an oposite opinion that sturgeon don’t eat in summer because they already feed in the gulf of Mexico during the winter. Moreover, they don;t eat insects because they are bottom feeders who have speical mouse to feed on the seafloor. Second, removing parasites is one of the explanation that made by reading. The evidence is that sturgeon shake themselves violently in the air, and hitting the water with a great momentum. By contrast, the professor disputes that sturgeon have parasites, however, dangerous parasites are contained in bodies of sturgeon, rather than in scales. The sturgeon in fish farm do have parasites that appear in their scales, nevertheless, these fish don’t have the jumping behaviour. In conclusion, there is no connection between jumping and parasites. Third, the passage claims that the jumping of sturgeon is more frequently during the tourist season, which could not be coincidence. By contrast, the professor argues that from the tourists perspective, it is very scarce for a two hundred pounds animal collide with their boats. But the truth is that the fast moving boat just accidentally collide with speeding up sturgeon. Also, people observe that sturgeon will jump up from water whether in the boating area or not.

The reading talks about three different theories about why sturgeon often jump out of water. But the professor in the listening part disagree with all those statement mentioned by the reading, she said that they all have significant weakness. The first reason provided by the author in the reading part is that sturgeon jump put of water to catch flying insects especially in early morning and evening when most fresh water occurs. This idea was challenged by the professor in the listening part. She claims that sturgeon does not have the feeding behavior in the summer and they feed on Sulf from Mexico in winter. Moreover, Sulf, which are prey by sturgeon, are feed on the bottom of the river or seas. So based on this situation it’s impossible for sturgeon to jump out of water in order to catch insects. Jumping out of the water so as to remove parasites on their skin is the second explanation provided by the author. This idea was rebutted by the professor, she illustrate that parasites is dangerous exactly, but they are not on sturgeon’s skin. Instead, it’s inside their body. Furthermore, parasites are mostly occur in farm fishing but they don’t embody jumping behavior in the farm, so we can not really see the connection between the parasites and the jumping behavior. The last explanation established by the author is that sturgeon jump out of water because tourists invade sturgeon’s territory. Even more is that sturgeon in particular jump out of the water during tourist season. This hypothesis was rejected by the professor, the reason she provided is that the collision between the boat and sturgeon are just by accident. Plus sturgeon will jump out of water whether are their or not. So this phenomenon can demonstrate that sturgeon jump out of water because of the collision rather than provoked by tourists.

Section Title: 6.文章修订
Gulf sturgeon are large fish that reside in Florida rivers during the summer months, after spending the winter in the Gulf of Mexico. They are known for their habit of jumping several feet out of the water and returning with a loud splash. The reading passage proposes three different explanations for this behavior, while the listening passage refutes each of these theories.
Firstly, the reading suggests that sturgeon jump to catch flying insects as a food source, particularly during early morning and evening when most freshwater fish feed. However, the lecturer disputes this claim, stating that sturgeon do not eat during summer because they have already fed in the Gulf of Mexico during winter. Furthermore, she emphasizes that sturgeon are bottom feeders with specialized mouths for feeding on the seafloor, not insects.
Secondly, the reading posits that sturgeon jump to remove parasites from their scales. It highlights how they shake themselves vigorously in mid-air and hit the water with great force on their sides. Contrarily, the professor argues that although sturgeon do have parasites, these parasites are internal rather than external on their scales. She also points out that farm-raised sturgeon with external parasites do not exhibit jumping behavior, indicating no connection between jumping and parasite removal.
Lastly, the reading claims that increased sturgeon jumping during tourist season indicates aggression towards tourists invading their territory. In contrast, the lecturer asserts that collisions between boats and sturgeon are rare accidents caused by fast-moving boats inadvertently colliding with jumping fish. She also notes that sturgeon will jump regardless of whether boats are present or not.
In conclusion, while various theories exist regarding why Gulf sturgeon jump out of water, none of those presented in the reading passage withstand scrutiny from opposing evidence provided by the listening passage. (298 words)
