When choosing what products to buy, there are many potential sources of information and advice for consumers. In your opinion, which is the better strategy for making a purchasing decision, relying on advice from friends and family or depending on information from online sources? Why?
Student A
Asking friends and family members for product recommendations might seem like an easier option, but it might take too much time to get all the information you need. An internet search would be much more efficient. There are many consumer magazines available online that compile lots of data to compare the advantages and disadvantages of one product versus another.
Student B
The last time I bought a computer, I just watched a few videos online to make a decision, and now I regret that. My friends could have advised me better because they know my preferences and the kind of features that I am interested in. Consumers should get advice from the people around them to find the most suitable products.
User Samples & Evaluation Results
User Sample
I believe the advice from friends and family is a more reliable source to consider when it comes to purchasing products. As everyone has internet access nowadays, businesses contract influencers to help promote their products online through social media posts. Since the influencers get paid, their ultimate goal is to help the company persuade customers to buy more of the product. Therefore, they might only focus on the advantages of the product and underestimate the disadvantages. By contrast, the advice of friends and family is more objective, as they are not motivated by profits. With more precise information, one can weigh up the pros and cons of the product and purchase what exactly they need as a result. While it’s true that the internet provides a variety of information, it can be inefficient as it is almost impossible for us to go through and analyze all of the information and decide what is conducive when making decisions.

Example 1: Instead of "businesses contract influencers to help promote their products online," you could write "businesses contract influencers and use sponsored ads, which may not provide an unbiased opinion on the product."
Example 2: You can add a sentence like "On the other hand, online sources such as customer reviews and expert opinions can also provide valuable insights, but they may not be as personalized as advice from friends and family."
Example 1: In the introduction, you can add a sentence like "While both friends and family's advice and online sources have their merits, I believe that the former is a more reliable strategy for making purchasing decisions."
Example 2: Instead of "With more precise information," you can use a transition phrase like "Considering these factors," to connect your ideas more smoothly.

In my opinion, seeking advice from friends and family is a more reliable strategy when making purchasing decisions, as opposed to relying solely on online sources. In today's digital age, businesses often collaborate with influencers to promote their products through social media posts. These influencers, driven by monetary incentives, may predominantly emphasize the product's advantages while downplaying its drawbacks. Conversely, friends and family offer a more objective perspective since they are not motivated by financial gains. This impartial advice enables individuals to accurately assess the pros and cons of a product, ultimately leading to a well-informed decision tailored to their specific needs. Although the internet offers an abundance of information, sifting through and analyzing this vast array of data can be time-consuming and inefficient. Furthermore, it can be challenging for consumers to discern which sources are genuinely helpful in guiding their decision-making process. (146 words)
