Professor
This week, I want you to discuss assessment criteria. Some schoolteachers give high grades (marks) only to those students who perform well on their homework assignments and tests. Other teachers, however, may give high grades to students who have worked very hard on their assignments but have not performed so well. Which approach do you think is better: Giving grades based only on performance, or grading students not just on performance but also on their effort?
Student A
think grades should be based on performance only. It's a matter of fairness. I'd be really upset if another student got nearly the same grade that I did when I turned in work that was almost perfect and the other student's work had incorrect answers or unclear ideas. It wouldn't matter to me if they worked harder.
Student B
Sure, evaluation should mainly be based upon the student's performance, but hard work should count for something. A student who works hard, even when the final grade isn't the highest in the class, builds character, which will benefit the student later in life when they go to university or apply for a job.

I think teachers should value not just student’s performance but also their effort when grading students. First of all, although homework assignments and tests can reflect some of students’ abilities and how much they dedicate to study, they definitely shouldn’t be the whole part, since some students who work well in class may suffer from coincident factors that eventually make their performance in tests less impressive than in classes and normal occasions, thus might result in their marks not matching their abilities. Besides, evaluation should consider the perspective of how persistent and hardworking students are, as it’s widely acknowledged that these virtues are vital when students step into society. If teachers really want to emphasis the importence of developing students’ ability for fitting in the society rather than for coping with exams, they should grade students on multiple factors including their effort.

Example 1: Instead of "thus might result in their marks not matching their abilities", you could write "which may lead to a discrepancy between their grades and their true abilities."
Example 2: Instead of "they should grade students on multiple factors including their effort", you could write "they should evaluate students based on a variety of factors, such as effort, participation, and collaboration."

Section Title: 6 文章修订
In my opinion, teachers should consider not only a student's performance but also their effort when assigning grades. While homework assignments and tests can provide insight into a student's abilities and dedication to their studies, they should not be the sole determining factor. Some students may excel in class but face unforeseen circumstances that negatively impact their test performance, leading to grades that do not accurately reflect their true capabilities. Furthermore, evaluating students based on their persistence and work ethic is essential, as these qualities are crucial for success in the real world. If educators aim to emphasize the importance of preparing students for societal integration rather than merely equipping them to pass exams, they must adopt a more comprehensive grading approach that takes effort into account.
