TOEFL TPO -1 Academic Discussion Writing Sample: As I mentioned in class, field trips have been a staple of primary education for decades. They offer students the opportunity to learn outside of the classroom and engage with the world around them. Field trips can take many forms, from visits to museums and art galleries to trips to zoos and historical sites. While some argue that field trips provide hands-on learning experiences that cannot be replicated in the classroom, others believe that students can learn just as effectively by staying in the classroom. What is your opinion? Why? Before next class, I would like you to share your idea on the discussion board.

Field trips can take many forms, from visits to museums and art galleries to trips to zoos and historical sites. What is your opinion? Why? Before next class, I would like you to share your idea on the discussion board.
Student A
I am of the opinion that it is important to take students on field trips rather than stay in class the whole time. The most important point relates to the need for variety in children’s learning experiences. School can become a little repetitive for children and anything that provides novelty and a change from the daily routine is beneficial for the students. Field trips can present the opportunity for an adventure and new experiences.
Student B
I hold a different view from Anita and firmly believe that field trips are not necessary for effective learning. In fact, students can learn just as effectively by staying in the classroom, using abundant high quality online resources, including videos, audios and images. This means that modern technology can provide stimulating and varied learning opportunities without leaving the classroom. Also, field trips can be expensive and time-consuming, which can be a burden for schools and families.

These hand-on learning experience is part of which most last memory. You will remember what you are feeling and what you are doing at that time. That personally feeling never can be gained from simply learning process. Let us say if we just learn from class or use some online resources, what we can get? Just only academic memory, we can imagine when we encounter this problem what should we do. But does that imagination useful? My answer is no. Because your imagination is just a perfect situation, the percentage of which will happen is extremely low. You can not forecast what will happen and what mistakes you will make in the following. The uncertainty is absolutely a dominator of your problem solving process. Some one would say field trip is an time consuming and tight budget activity. But when you know what you can actually get is what far beyond what so-called knowledge you will think the all criticism are nonsense. In a nut shell, the value of field trip is far beyond your imagination, through this process you will be benefited a lot.

- Article Revision
While it is true that modern technology offers a plethora of resources for learning within the confines of a classroom, I firmly believe that field trips hold an indispensable value in primary education. The hands-on experiences and practical knowledge gained during these excursions cannot be replicated solely through academic instruction or online materials. When students are immersed in real-world situations, they develop problem-solving skills that are tailored to the specific context, which may not align with idealized scenarios presented in the classroom.
Furthermore, field trips create lasting memories for students by engaging their senses and emotions, fostering a deeper understanding and connection to the subject matter. This personal investment in learning is difficult to achieve through traditional teaching methods or digital resources alone. While critics may argue that field trips are time-consuming and costly endeavors, the long-term benefits of experiential learning far outweigh these concerns. Ultimately, incorporating field trips into primary education curriculum not only enriches students' educational experience but also equips them with invaluable life skills that extend beyond the classroom walls.
